Kangaroo TV: Be at the Race and Watch it on TV, Too

If you’ve ever been at a sporting event and had that strange feeling you’d rather be watching it on TV, now Kangaroo TV offers you a way to both be there and get some tight close-ups and instant replays, too. The hardened handheld TVs are being rented at major sporting events around the world, but you’ll have to pay dearly for the privilege—they rent for $50 a day or $70 for a weekend.

According to Montreal-based Kangaroo TV, the service and device have been especially well-received at auto racing events, where it’s branded the NASCAR Nextel FanView. The unit plays back MPEG-4 video, and can give you a lot more than what you get from a Jumbotron, feeding you up to 10 live video channels. It’s also reportedly better than having a scanner at a racetrack, where numerous data and in-car audio feeds can also be received on frequencies that you can set yourself. Sounds like a great way to keep in touch with everything that’s going on around you, giving you the best of both worlds.
