The folks at Mobileread asked the “Sony Reader Team” to talk about their as-of-yet-unavailable handheld ebook system. He was pretty straightforward in answering the questions and there are some hot features including MP3 and AAC playback as well as some sort of DRM-sharing system so you and six of your closest friends can share books. Best of all? It uses Sony’s excellent (cough) CONNECT software to download and process content. If this CONNECT is as good and popular as CONNECT for music, four to five people will be using it by late 2015!

Let’s face, something just can never replace another.
Ebook reader can never make it. It is because of social and customer’s inborn need of physical presence. Unless, most popular books has only online version instead of printed version, it will never take off. Why ?? Technology is rational but human is not, and most editor will never risk putting book into digital format the way just like music in cd into online. It is a loss business, and if take off will create another internet “consumer” bubble.
Can’t Sony ask themselves ?? Why should customer pay for expensive gadget to read book ??? come on, think like customer. Right now, only minority will read ebook on pocket pc. This is not because that pocket pc is not good. On the contrary, ppc is much better now, however, human strive for the experience of reading book physically. Something they could feel, and touch. Some habits just never die …..

Sony needs to stop being so arrogant and create more interoperable platforms and bring them out in a timely fashion. And after the XCOPY faux pas, hearing “Sony” and “DRM” in the same sentence gives me the creeps.
