TiVo Series 3 in the Wild

I’ve been waiting for this moment most of my adult life. Since I excoriated the Series 2 DT, TiVo probably will never hold and kiss me again, but I’m so happy to see these spy shots of the Series 3 and maybe, just maybe, they’ll learn to love me again. Oh TiVo, you came and you stopped me from shaking…

Anyway, here are some spy shots of the Series 3 with dual CableCARDs, an HDMI port, lots of fresh HME content including Yahoo, and a nice eSATA interface which allows you to use external SATA drives for more storage. Looks like someone is going to get my hard-earned money next year…

  • Cool cool cool. It’s about time!

So help me understand the geekery… does dual CableCard equate to dual tuner? I sure hope so… that’ the old thing stopping me from burning my Comcast DVR like a draft card. That thing is horrendous.

  • It should be CableCard2 which is the coming update to the current CableCard spec which is downstream only which prevents you from using it for OnDemand and PPV. That’s one reason only about 40,000 CableCards have been installed nationwide in all those fancy HDTVs.

CableCard2 is bi-directional and essentially turns this into a fully functional cable box complete with support for OnDemand and PPV.

I can’t wait for it to be ready.
