ahem – downloaded to a fancy new touchscreen iPod or Zune will definitely rip the DVD sales and rental market a new orifice. That said, Amazon is also planning this same thing, which means competition is going to get hot and heavy this holiday season. This also means that Apple had better think about refreshing the video iPod in the next few weeks or there’s going to be some pushback as customers flock towards larger, widescreen portable video players.
iTunes To Have Movie Downloads This Month [TechCrunch]
Movie Downloads on iTunes By Mid-September [BusinessWeek Online]

Uh, QTFairUse is nice an’ all, but it only works on music at the moment. There’s no guarantee it’d work for video. That said, I doubt it’ll be long before the DRM is cracked.
Any word that these movie downloads can be burned to DVD? One of my big frustrations with iTunes vids is you can’t burn to DVD or even export as QT. It would be nice if I could download something at work and take it home to watch. If this type of feature is not included with the iTunes upgrade, I can hardly justify $15 for a movie that can only be played on my downloading computer or the 2-in iPod screen.
