I like my Treo - I checked out the Q, but I don’t think it’s viable for a serious business user. the lack of touchscreen is tough to get used to. My only problem with blackberries is that they’re so awkward as phones. I want a phone first, with email, web, and contacts secondary. I’m on my third generation Treo and have been satisfied. If something better comes along I’d consider it, but after looking at everything that is available now I know I made the right choice for me.

I agree with Chris. The Q is a nice industrial design but falls short in usability - no way it’s equivalent to a Treo. Plus it forces you to try to make ActiveSync work - a dubious proposition in my experience. Blackberries are coming along, as are the Nolia Communicators but I’ve just upgraded to the Treo 700p from a 650 and it’s the best Treo yet IMO. Excellent storage, great EVDO performance, and an uparalleled library of software to choose from.

I own a Treo 650 and like it. However, I’ll swap it for a P990i soon. Why? I like Palm OS, but Palm (it’s now called Palm again, right? Not palmOne anymore?) seems to be moving towards Windows. I don’t want Windows on my Phone. Some of my friends have Windows phones, and their experiences have been, well, not positive. I used to own a P800, and even that old version of Symbian beat the version of Palm OS used in the Treo 650. I expect the P990i’s version to destroy the Treo 650.

The problem with Palm is that instead of using the best version of Palm OS, they sell phones with old versions of Palm OS and new versions of Windows. I don’t want that if I can get a modern Symbian phone instead.

I really enjoyed my SE P900 series when I used it. Palm has always held a special place in my heart - it was my first PDA and I programmed for it back in the day - but Symbian can “hide” its complexity well and is very elegant when it’s not bloated by manufacturers.

Yikes! Just this week I upgraded to the 700wx b/c of numerous problems with my PPC 6700. I cannot stand Blackberries b/c they are awkward to use as a phone and I want an all-in-one device. The 700p is Palm OS and 700wx is Windows based, but why does is the Palm OS favored over Windows?

I think the trouble can be linked to price point with Treos. If you consider the offerings from the three largest carriers (Verizon, Sprint and Cingular), you’ll find that Treos are priced significantly higher than other smartphone offerings from Blackberry, Samsung and Motorola. Most of the offerings provide similar functionality.

I am looking for a new smartphone and was pretty set on the 700wx and willing to pay $300 - $400. But when I saw the $650 price tag (before $150 rebate), I decided that I needed to find another option. Since I didn’t win the Motorola Q in 6 Degrees of Crunchiation, I guess that is my second pick and will fork out the money for it. Well, that is..when Sprint offers the Motorola Q. Supposedly, Sprint is supposed to launch it in Q4. Does anyone have a more specific launch date? I’ve searched to no avail.
