JBL Tackles Mt. Everest

Alright so technically, they just made some speakers named Mt. Everest, but they do weigh 313 pounds, which might as well be as heavy as a mountain for some people (me). The Mt. Everest speakers blast at 500-watts and measure mountainously at 9″ x 18.5″ x 44″. So if you have $30,000 to buy them, I hope you have a lot of spare room.
Our pals in Nippon will be able to purchase the Mt. Everest on September 21. I’m going to import seven of them and make a surround system using these monstrosities solely. Yea. Someone want to recommend a good receiver?

They seem to be rather expensive. You can buy 500+ watt speakers that are meant for clubs, bars and other large musical venues for a lot less than 30k. I guess all that wood finishing makes it cost extra.

Buy a Rotel RSP-1098 and five RB-1091. Top it off with an RDV-1092 and you’ve got a killer HT system ;-)
…Replace the JBLs with some B&W 802s and you’d be better off….

That’s a lot of dough for a speaker, and the price point is much higher than speakers with comparable specs. I hope there is a tremendous improvement in sound, or that IS a lot of dough for wood finish.

Okay, I’m just wondering what the heck the guy is doing in the picture? Anyways, at $30,000 I think I’ll be sticking to my $200 all in one dvd/sound system. Do people actually spend this much on sound?

All JBL home products come from JBL pro unrivaled references (JBL HLA, VERTEC, SR SERIES, LSR studio all state of the art) and like they know more than any other society pro sound, do you imagine the result in audio hi fi for home ? and with 60 year of EXCELLENCE and great experience !

yea a good reciever… it depends on how much yiou want to spend… if you want to go all out and get the best power per speaker i recomend the marantz ma-9s2 this thing is a mono block amplifier with 2 channels.. it pumps out 150 amps of power at 300 watts.. dont let the low rating on it stop you though .. it will effortlessly power the everests and it costs $7,999.. if you are looking to spend a litle lessi would get a professional amplifier somtehing like the cerwin vega cv-2800 it is rated at 600 watts at 8 ohms; 900 watts at 4 ohms, if bridged 1800 watts at 8 ohms and 2800 watts at 4 ohms ; 1400 wats at 2 ohms. its less expensive, much less expensive at around $800. it putes out about 16 amps at 4 ohms and 32 amps at max power. If you go this rout then you will need a pre amp meant for home theater i recomend the surround processor that jbl makes , the SDP-40, the specs are too numerous to list. i hope this information helps you, oh and i think it is a great thing to spend a good sum of money on.. the better te audio, the better the experience. if anyone else has any questiones you can e mail me at jblaudiophile@hotmail.com
