This monitor does not work properly with older ipods. Buyer beware. It will recognize and play the ipod, but will not charge on the older (Firewire based) Ipod Dock Connector units.

[...] Just a quick follow up on something we reported on last month. ViewSonic, in an attempt to give us one more thing we can stick into our monitor, has released its 19-inch VX1945wm and 22-inch VX2245wm LCD monitors that incorporate an iPod docking station, four USB 2.0 ports, an 8-in-1 card reader, a microphone, stereo speakers and a subwoofer into the displays. While we’re all for adding functionality and freeing up desk space, we still can’t help think “why?” [...]

I don't own an iPod but that is one damn sexy display. I would never have expected such a glam product from ViewSonic. Very nice!

I cant wait to see what the MSRP is going to be. I suggest people just save their money and buy a regular ilo dock and play it on your plasma.

A correction .. from the bit-tech.net website:

"A dock for your iPod is molded directly into the base, allowing you a host of options. First, you can use the dock just like a standard dock, to synch and charge your iPod. But the real news comes from the connection's other purpose - a direct connection to use the monitor as the iPod's display, letting you just plop your iPod in to watch some videos."

So it looks like the monitor can directly play iPod videos bypassing the computer. Nice!

Actually, the monitor does look nice. I own an iPod (though not a blind fan of all things Apple), and the docking feature should be useful. The USB hub too, though I wonder where the USB connector to the computer is placed (cannot say from the pic).
I hope it is not like the (older) Dell ultrasharp flat panels with their horrible placement of the connectors in difficult-to-reach spots on the back side.

PS: Note that the photo here is misleading .. a cursory glance might make people assume that you can directly play movies on the screen from your iPod, bypassing the computer.
