How do they come out with these accessories so fast!? Does apple release specs to accessory vendors before they release their products?

Apple surely released some specs in advance to very trusted partners.
And this is a very good thing. People should be able to protect their investment from the get-go, and not have to wait months before a protective case becomes available.
Does the new 2G iPod shuffle really have an aluminum case? i saw the silicone case, but not the aluminum case.
