Kotaku got the scoop on Gamestop poster announcing reserves for the PS3 and the Wii. According to the poster, customers can turn in $50 of used products to reserve one of the systems. Kotaku posits that this might be the only way to reserve systems through Gamestop, but I highly doubt it. More likely is that this is simply one of the promotions they’re offering. I’d be willing to bet that $50 cash will reserve you a system just as well as $50 of product would.
GameStop Forcing Trade-Ins for PS3, Wii Reserves? [Kotaku]

I have a feeling the PS3 preorders will be in short demand.
This is a trial taking place ONLY in Hawaii – it’s been confirmed as only there. Everywhere else you can pre-order with cash.
I just can´t wait to put my hands on this console!
How long shout it come to Brazil? :(
ok first of all the xbox 360 is ten times the syaytem and second, there is no need to preorder, sony will most likely have more than enough in stock when its release bc they hopefully were paying attentiona and noticed how angry everyone got when there were shortages of 360’s
It’s a test they’re running on some Gamestops. Let’s hope it’s not successfull.
Does it have to be in product value or could i simply reserve it with 50 bucks.
For those particular Gamestops, it looks like it does have to be something you trade in for your reserve. So you couldn’t simply fork over 50 bucks.

I agree, they probably would, however, $50.00 of trade in material can be worth a lot more than $50.00 in cash. They’ll probably value 5 PS2 games at $10.00 each, then sell them for $20.00 each, which is actually worth $100.00 to them.

I guess you didn’t read the articles last week stating that Sony is having production issues and is only slating 400,000 copies for North American release, and a mere 100,000 for Japan, which is roughly how many Nintendo DS’ are sold in that country per week!
The total worldwide PS2 availability will be somewhere around 2 million, which is about half of what they wanted to launch with (~4 million).
I think there’s likely going to be a overage in preorders for PS3 that the supply will not be able to meet. That will be pretty ugly. I want a PS3 but I’m willing to wait until the 2nd run so I don’t have to trample an old lady and a two-year old (or pay $8Billion dollars on eBay) so I can have one on Xmas day.
