Engadget got a scoop earlier that Wal-Mart had a page listing the Zune price at $284. This jives well with the projected $300 tag everyone was assuming. The page has been pulled, but not before screen captures were, well, captured. There is still no word on availablity, but I’m guessing November–and I base that on absolutely nothing.
Wal-Mart leaks Zune price — $284? [Engadget]

Well, the iPod 5.1G 30GB is still cheaper.
The Zune will really have to impress to make any headway against the iPod.
Yeah, but for your $50 ($34?) extra, you get WiFi and a bigger screen and ummm…DRM added to all the files you send? And no PlaysForSure or iTunes? Uhhh…
Am I the only one who’s more excited about the release of the plus version of the non-zune player on that page? I can’t WAIT for the Zen V Plus 4gb to be released in the US!!! Who needs a big ugly zune when you can have an adorable cute little mp3 player? My music is my problem, I don’t need to be wi-fi-ing it to everybody. I think the technological era has given us too much of a need to always have everyone else know exactly what we’re doing. We blog about what we had for dinner, we call others to tell them where we are every moment, and now we even send our music out so everyone knows what we’re listening to.
What happened to living for yourself, rather than living for everyone else’s approval of what you do?
I WOULD HAVE TO SAY THAT THISis one more reason why although i love wal-mart, they really are dumbasses.
I’m digging the Zune and think its pretty good value with the specs that I have seen so far. The interface seems to be much more attractive to the iPod, i mean, Creative’s interface design. All these legal downloads are going to require DRM by the labels so there’s really no +/- there. The integrated FM tuner/transmittor along with the wider screen and the zune-2-zune filesharing are very cool. Of course, part of my decision will also rest on the Zune marketplace and its usability and offerings. And hopefully, the Zunes don’t burn out after 18 months like so many iPods. For me, its between the Zune and Creative Zen Vision:W.
The price is cheap which they better do if they want to compete.
Over *cough* hype *cough*.
The day I strain my neck and eyes to watch videos on these dinky little screens the day I’d hope my friends and family committ me to the looney bin. Television and movies really aren’t so important that I need access to them everywhere I go…
The price is still not low enough to convince most people not to get an ipod. The rumor that URGE would allow free copies of already purchased itunes — now that would probably do it. But for $16?? Not enough. Wi-Fi isn’t that important and most people won’t buy it for that (at least until you reach a critical mass, because who would you share with?).
