Looks like Wal-Mart is getting ready to sell us the Zune. Not much info – just a “coming soon” graphic – but it looks like Microsoft has these in the pipe and may be ready to ship soon. We’ll keep you posted.

Will Zunes sold at Wal-Mart include a chip that only allows Wal-Mart friendly content and block any questionable non “family” materials?
Great…go buy your new cutting-edge Zune at Walmart so the unshowered 400-lb attendant with rollers in her hair can push 4 carts of merchandise out of the way with here left flipflop to open the display case where a troublesome toddler has spilt their Cherry slushee down the front all while a belligerent announcer barks pages over the intercom in hardly recognizeable English.
No fan of Walmart. I’ll just wait to buy one off the web or at Best Buy.
Why would anyone get one at walmart?? If they are getting an mp3 palyer, surely they know enough to order one on-line and get a better price. I’m not ant-Walmart, but the fit just doesn’t seem to be there. If this is how the Zune will compete against the I-Pod, the Zune will get crushed.
Zune isn’t for the iPod hipsters. It’s for the unwashed masses. Hence Wal-Mart…
I ended up spending 5 hours at walmart (http://www.friedgeek.com/2006/09/18/walmart-bites-ass/) and I was suprised how large their iPod area was. Regardless after the problems I had with Walmart I wouldn’t buy gum from them.
Walmart…. I went there once….
Engadget is reporting that the Walmart price for the Zune is $284.

Yeah, I’d think Walmart would actually be pricing these lower than most places, even online due to the sheer volume of products they can push through in a day. Even if they take a loss on the Zune, it will only increase store traffic. Many stores undersell products to oversell other items.
