A group of industrious MIT researchers have developed a tiny gas-turbine engine that fits inside a silicon chip measuring about the size of a quarter. The system is said to be able to run 10 times longer than a similarly weighted battery.
The engine’s turbines spin at 20,000 RPS to produce 10 watts of power. The researchers expect to start testing the engines in in various electronic devices before year’s end.

Damn thats awesome. One of my subjects at Uni was MEMS (microelectromechanincal systems) and some of the things we saw were simply mind blowing. Using existing IC processes they are able to make virtually anything on a tiny scale. Just let your imagination run wild!

That’s amazing! Too bad it costs $2.00 to fill the tank..LOL.

This may actually be more dangerous than the exploding laptop batteries, but I still want one.
