  • “upscaling your current DVD movies to 1080p as well, which will be a welcome addition for most households with HDTVs but no upscaling DVD Player”

Uh, “upscaling” is of extremely limited benefit. No technology can add information where it does not exist. A standard DVD cannot be turned into an HD-DVD through this sort of manipulation.

I have an “upscaling” DVD player, and it makes no discernable difference whatsoever versus a regular high-quality DVD player.

  • I agree with Steve. Upscaling players seem to do more harm than good, most of the time. Especially when they are not working at the TV’s native resolution.

  • I agree. If you add upscalling from standard DVD to HD and then play it on a HDTV - you are going to see a LOT of extra noise where the system is guessing at the new data - just the same as if you try to SCALE up a JPG in photoshop - ick!

  • Off the subject — the guy in the picture looks like he is blowing up a building with James Bond in it. “The Golden Drive is Mine, Double-0 7. Goodbye, Bond.”

  • you are all a bunch of dumbasses and i should kick the shit out of all of you
