Imation fits Flash memory to charity wristbands [Reg Hardware via Mobile Mag]

  • This is a pretty innovative idea merging two very successful trends of charity wristbands and USB flash drives. Although, I don’t know that I would wear one everyday as I do with my Lance Armstrong yellow wristband. I think it would also appeal to me more if the company partnered with the various charities to make a donation to the appropriate color’s cause for each unit sold (i.e. yellow = cancer, red = AIDS, pink = breast cancer, etc.). Otherwise, it kind of troubles me that the company would be making money off the success of a charity fundraiser and detracts from the charitable nature of their origin. I know other organizations are already using these as a profit generation channel (without storage), and I don’t care for it.

I wear my wristband not so much for being stylish but to remind me that one of my best friends (34yrs old) is fighting for his life against colon cancer that has now spread to his liver and chemotherapy is no longer effective (His oncologist is actually one of the team members from Lance’s oncology team). So I would like to know that it is both a reminder and a contribution to a cause not just a profit maker for a company. The added storage is just another perk.

  • Sweet, so I can still be the first person to come out with USB gimp bracelets then? Ahhhh, good old gimp.
