Hauppauge’s WinTV-HVR-950
by Raj Patel on September 25, 2006

The WinTV-HVR-950, released by Hauppauge, is an easy-to-install USB2 receiver that lets you watch HDTV on the go. The WinTV-HVR-950 features analog cable TV, ATSC HD digital TV (the standard HD for North America), Hauppauge’s WinTV2000 application to watch and record TV in small or full screen and WinTV-Scheduler that lets you set recording times. The receiver also comes with an antenna that will let you recieve digital TV wherever you travel. Pretty nifty little plug-and-play device if you’re always on the go and don’t want to miss the game or your favorite show. If you’re recording a program in HD you’ll usually take up around 4GB of space per hour, so it would definitely be a good idea to keep an eye on your disk space, especially since laptop drives aren’t usually too big. You also need at least a 2.8 GHz processor to be able record analog TV. Furthermore, unless you’re running boot camp, the WinTV-HVR-950 is only compatible with Windows XP (sorry old Macs). No pricing yet, but you can check out the product page for updates.
