Sony Starts Interactive Commercials

With all the ad-skipping PVRs out there, Sony has decided to start making interactive commercials for viewers who own PVRs. The commercial is actually for Sony’s Bravia televisions and offers viewers two pick one of two different endings – one for male and one for female. The question here is: Will interactive commercials actually get people to watch Sony’s commercials? Maybe once or maybe twice, but the novelty will probably wear off quickly. It isn’t like this is the first time we’ve seen commercial interactivity either. We’ve seen those “Go to www.plug-site.com to watch ending” commercials before. So, how many of you have actually gone out of your way to watch the ending? None? Really? Sony should probably sit down and re-think this one before viewers start getting really, really annoyed.

  • Why don’t they just use a commercial selecter for the user, which pops up as soon as a commercial start triggers it and vanishes once a commercial-end trigger would be kicked in.

From this screen you would see an overview of commercials in the database, rated from high to low depending on the amount the broadcasting channel got paid and then the user him/her-self can choose the commercial they want to watch. Just like they could zap away if things are not of interest to them.

Hell they could even track your, or the households for that matter, commercial interests. This way allowing a recommended option as well which would fill up the commercialblock with personalized commercials which would actually keep you in place wanting to see them.

Ofcourse, this would require the visitors to have interactive television enabled, and that is still something rare in a lot of countries.
