[...] TechCrunch seems to be the go to place for information about the newest gadgets and news from across the blogosphere. But I still feel like such a non-dork when I read about things like the PepperPad 3 and Blu-Ray/HD-DVDs. I am sooo far behind technologically, but hey, I’m one of the only ones in my family who even has a computer! I’ll learn, it will take me time, but I have already learned a lot since marrying my geek husband 5 years ago, though it took him two years to convince me I needed a computer. Now I don’t know how I ever lived without one. [...]

I've been following ebooks and tablet PCs for a while, and this has blown the socks off of anything so far on the price.

Everyone always says "Just go get a laptop!" I have a laptop - a rather nice one in fact, but its NOT an ebook. Its NOT a device that I can flip on real fast to check something. Its NOT a device that I want sitting in front of my TV so that I can look up some nagging fact on IMDB while I'm watching something.

And the open source on top of it is just cake. I'm a software developer and can't wait to start programming for it.

I've had it preordered since August 2nd I think. Hopefully I'll get it in a couple days.

[...] This is quite cool and joins the “When I win the lottery” section (I think I might actually make that a category). The Pepper Pad 3 is a small touchscreen tablet PC with WiFi, Bluetooth, a scroller, thumbkeys, speakers and just about everything that you might need from such a small unit. And it runs Linux so will be easily customisable if you feel like making it do your own thing. More pictures here. [...]

700$ is not bad really. Also, we do not know how full featured it is yet. As for a windows XP box for less, you might be able to find it, but it will be a slug, or worse, a loud paper weight.

Further more, this is the web. A lot of the people viewing the site are in other countries. Computer prices world wide are pretty ugly right now. If the system has even half the features of a full sized box, $700 is not a bad price at all. I mean, look at the new video game consoles, averaging 400$ for toys. :P

Well it's a lot cheaper than a Q1 (half the price at least here in the UK) has Linux instead of Windows which is a huge bonus with terminal goodness. Unlike a laptop i don't have a kb in the way and i can thumb type if i need the keys when browsing, What's not to like? can't wait.

[...] The CrunchGear crew has received a new toy, and the PepperPad tablet is currently undergoing rigorous testing procedures over at their HQ with a full review to come soon. The PepperPad tablet is another Internet surfing tool which comes equipped with Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity, a full QWERTY keyboard for you to carry on messaging at a WiFi hotspot, a built-in hard drive, touchscreen capability, and a Linux OS which should shave off a good $70 or so from the final price as there is no need to purchase Windows XP Professional. Is this device really necessary? Most people who have laptops will definitely find no use for this, while others will most probably have a casual Web surfing device like their 3G cellphones, PSPs, and DS Lites. Look at where Palm’s LifeDrive is now. [...]

I really want one of these things, I can't wait to read the full review. I'm very interested to know how long the battery lasts, I haven't been able to find out elsewhere.

Donovan, amazon has it available for preorder for 700USD in white, black or pink :)

Any idea how much this is going to cost? If it ends up being too much, it would be hard to justify this over a laptop, just like the UMPCs that have come out so far.

zorg: he does mention that the full photos are not here yet because he has not fully explored all of the pepperpads features. now I do agree with you lets have them, I suspect the product is too big for most of us to be instantally won over, there might even be a restiction placed by the vendor on what type of photos they could show. the (pre) review even says it be a good kitchen or living room computer nothing about good for taking round with me for daily use out of the home.
Well looking forward to seeing more details though I bet the price will make me really look at its short coming of not having a full keyboard and its size.

how about some in situ photos? person holding it, sitting on the kitchen counter next to a soft drink can, on the coffee table next to the ny times, bedside table with aspirin bottle / gin bottle ... i'm so sick of disembodied photos of things that are supposed to become part of my life

Hmm...pay the pizza guy with Paypal - somehow this sounds really familiar to me, like I've seen it or something similar done recently. Probably not, but I'm gonna check into it... :)

Actually though, CC is good enough for me - although with how much we all use paypal it would be convenient. There was this guy who moved across town, and one night soon after ordered pizza from where he typically did in his other house. Anyways, when he went to the door the pizza guy looked at him funny, then started reciting his old address. I think there's enough people that abuse takeout that much that they could have an account of some sort...

I'm tired enough to actually put thought into this - sad.
