Today, at Microsoft’s X06 press event, Microsoft announced a new partner ship with Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson and screenwriter Fran Walsh to develop a new series for the Xbox 360. Microsoft stated that the project will not be Halo 3, but will take place in the Halo universe. The goal of the partnership is to “create new stories and redefine the way they are told”. If you don’t know already, Peter Jackson is also the executive producer for the game to film adaptation of Halo, which already makes him quite familiar with the Halo universe. In addition to all that, Microsof also showed a trailer for a project called Halo Wars, a RTS (real-time strategy) designed exclusively for the Xbox 360.

I don’t understand that. In my opinion, the story was pretty much the only thing that Bungie got totally right in the Halo games (and in the Marathon games, for that matter). Bungie doesn’t need a screen writer, they need better level designers.
