Accessories in the box [Zune Insider]

  • I’m no fan boy (more like fan man) but the case really looks nice, the cable is kindof expected. Do ipods come with cases? I guess it doesnt matter.

  • In other Zune news, Microsoft will use its own Microsoft Points currency (Xbox users already know it) for the Zune music shop thing. Cheaper for Microsoft, less convenient for consumers.

  • I have to agree with LKM that I don’t really care for the “Microsoft Points” payment system. It seems a bit confusing (79 points = $0.99). But I don’t have an XBox 360 and have not personally used the system yet so maybe it will be clearer after some usage.

One thing noted in the C|Net News.com article that I hadn’t heard before was:
“Microsoft said Zune software will play files in several popular formats, including the AAC format used by Apple’s iTunes software.” That is great news since I do have a Mac (and PC) with lots of iTunes tracks.

The included accessories are okay but nothing really special, but that is to be expected with any product where there is planned and profitable accessory market. The magnetic earbuds are a nice touch though and at least you can put your Zune in a pouch to prevent briefcase rash until other high-end accessories become available.

  • webonics: Zune will not be able to play music files that use DRM. This means that your downloaded files from iTunes WILL NOT play on Zune even if their format is supported. Only the non-DRM files and the DRM from Zune Marketplace are supported.
