Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime, told ABC News today that he will be in New York on Nintendo Wii launch day and will hand out some of the first Wiis at a store. The store remains unnamed, but it’s rumored that he will be at Nintendo World Store in Rockefeller Center. Nintendo claims to feel more connected to its gamers than other console manufacturers, and this is a great way to show that connection.
You won’t see Sony handing out $600 dollar systems at the Metreon. Nintendo is holding its ground stating that, they don’t believe gaming is all graphics and that the average gamer doesn’t have high definition equipment anyway. Whatever spin Nintendo puts on it, the bottom line is: Free Wiis!
EDIT: You guys were right – he’s just “handing” them out. No free Wii Units for New Yorkers.

If you actually read the article that you linked to, it says specifically that they will be selling the Wiis and Reggie will be handing them out the the customers. It says nothing about giving them away…

Yeah……$250 is not really all taht nice from Nintendo, the system is hardly more powerful than the original Xbox a 5 year old system. Maybe if a complete controller wasn’t $60, tehn they would be nice.

I live in Canada…I’ve been saving for a Wii for a long time but i expected it to cost less…you Americans have got it cheaper…we ahve to pay more..like…somewhere between $280-$320 Canadian..partly cuz of the exchange rate but for a few other reasons to…wonder how cheap the Europeans have got it…

Considering that this page is showing up in “Google News” and is likely to be mistaken for TRUTH, yeah, it’s a big deal.
Verifying a source is not crucifying someone. If you think it is, you need to take an English lit. class.
Bottom line: The original post is erroneous, and is given some credibility by still showing up in a news search.
