[...] It must be external hard drive season. Coming after Buffalo’s DriveStation Duo release yesterday comes Western Digital’s launch of the 1TB MyBook Pro Edition II. Like the Buffalo, this MyBook is stuffed with two drives that can be switched between RAID 0 (striping for speed) and RAID 1 (mirroring for data protection) and has FireWire 400/800 and USB 2.0 ports. WD trumps Buffalo in the looks department for sure and I dig the capacity and activity lights on the MyBook as well. I do prefer the Memeo backup software on the DriveStation compared to the Retrospect Express on the MyBook though, that’s a very minor issue. [...]

[...] Sorry, guess it’s a hard-drive morning. Seagate Technology this morning specified exactly how it’ll position the Maxtor-brand internal hard drives it picked up when the company purchased Maxtor earlier this year. In short, Maxtor will be the mainstream label, Seagate will be the premium label. You’ll be able to grab DiamondMax drives in capacities up to 320GB and they’ll feature more average-consumer cache sizes and performance, with three-year warranties. Maxtor’s MobileMax laptop drives will feature capacities up to 80GB and a 5,400rpm spin speed to support mainstream notebooks. [...]
