The EVDO card is only Rev0, which is already outdated. Sprint has already released 3 higher speed RevA cards and at a lower rate of $60/month, you don't even need to be a voice customer. The additional WiFi is pretty moot when the main advantage of EVDO is that you get access in entire metro areas.

I'm rather surprised that Helio is offering an EV-DO card since they really need to expand their handset lineup beyond only the two offerings. Since most EV-DO users need the card for business, I have to question that a major segment of Helio's audience is business professionals. Maybe this offering is catering to college students but most major campuses offer WiFi access. Or maybe Helio is looking for a new area of growth to survive in a competitive market and not end up like ESPN Mobile MVNO.

I've seriously considered Helio as an option over the past several weeks as a new carrier because Sprint has such a limited offering of handsets but a good network. Helio uses the Sprint network and has 2 very nice handsets, but the plan pricing is still exorbant in comparison to the major carriers. I'm hoping the price may stabilize after they subscribership reaches a magic number.

But this is definitely a unique offering from an MVNO.
