I’m going to go ahead and call this one a little too convenient to be probable, but it’s worth speculating regardless. Rumor has it that Intel is currently scoping Nvidia in a bid to contest AMD’s recent acquisition of ATI. Rumormongering alone was enough to send Nvidia stock surging to $38 per share.
If this is indeed true, it can only negatively affect the consumer. I believe the market can handle AMD owning ATI, because there still exists the autonomous Nvidia. If Intel picks up Nvidia though, it’ll just turn into an all out turf war with all products being optimized only to work with its own brethren.
As always though, I could be wrong. What do you all think?
Intel would get away with eating Nvidia [The Inquirer]

This could be very, very bad. I hope it is not true.
On one hand, it would mean a significant loss of market choice. On the other hand, it would mean that the vast majority of computers would come with the most Linux-friendly 3D graphics card.
Considering that I only buy Intel processors, and Nvidia graphics cards, I would not mind this change. It would be nice using the two together knowing that they were probably tested to perform optimally with each other. Besides, AMD and ATI are sinking boats anyway.( even though the new X2s are pretty nice…)
