Funny but true: this was hyped for the last year or so as a "gaming keyboard," which I thought was a lousy idea. Gaming with no backlighting, macros, LCDs, or cool styling? It was primed for a flaming failure.

Now we have the same board, brand new function : media center. This is actually a viable idea, but its odd how they fail to mention the brand new functionality like no one would notice the switch. "Yeah, our last idea sucked with large lips, so why dwell on the past?"

However, this entire discussion may be moot. Phantom is almost out of money and has admitted that they need about $5M to get this lapboad produced. How does the partnership with Alienware change this??? If Phantom does not get the funds, Alienware may join the (very) long list of disappointed former partners, many of whom had to sue to get their investments back from the non-performing Infinium.

[...] A CG fan Matt tipped me off to his interesting new work set-up consisting of a phat Alienware Entertainment Center - surround sound out, digital video, and a little glowing alien head included - along with the Phantom Lapboard. The Lapboard is designed to be a “media center” keyboard. It’s stuck at an angle so you can get at it while sitting on a couch. It’s quite thin and light and the keyboard swivels almost 360 degrees for left and right handed use. It also has a wireless mouse and a small, white USB dongle. It will be an option on most Alienware MCE PCs next year, apparently. [...]
