Definitely cheesy, but the ad gets the point across that you can see six times as many dancers on your screen if you watch movies on HD DVD vs regular DVD. That is the message, right?

  • This commercial bites. I don’t think it does a very good job of communicating the product either. Just yesterday, I tried explaining Blu-Ray and HD-DVD to non-techie co-workers. They had lots of questions and didn’t really see the value (yet) to abandoning DVDs. Toshiba and Sony and each’s respective third-party business partners really need to put out more informational content rather than entertainment if they want their own format to succeed and take the next-gen title. Otherwise, the average consumer will not find much incentive to make an upgrade for a long time.
