Nintendo Wii: #1 On PC World’s Christmas List

This one is a few days old, but still worth the mention since the Wii preorders don’t even start until tomorrow. PC World has posted up a top 10 Christmas list for all of us tech dorks, and standing tall at #1 on the list is the Nintendo Wii. The list does lose a little bit of cred though, there are things on there like iPod and iPod Nano, which are cool, but not really cutting-edge and new. They didn’t even mention anything about the Zune! Another thing you’ll soon notice is that the Playstation 3 is not on the list, either. No Zune or PS3? What kind of Christmas list is this?! I kid. Kind of. Keep in the mind the list is also aimed toward the UK audience, not the U.S. Hit the jump to see the full list.

1. Nintendo Wii

2. Phillips LX1000 PC

3. Momento Photo Frame

4. Belkin Tunecast II FM Stereo Transmitter

5. Pink Advent 7105p Laptop

6. Logik Internet Radio

7. Packard Bell Smart TV

8. iPod and iPod Nano

9. TomTom 910 GPS

10. HP Photosmart A717

Most people probably don’t need a Wii *and* a PS3, or an iPod *and* a Zune, so the mag simply went with what they thought was better for most people. I agree with their choices - the PS3 is way overpriced, and the Zune’s features are kind of underwhelming and mostly hype at this point, anyway. WiFi to wirelessly exchange files with other Zune owners? Come on!

A lot of publications seem to be leaving the PS3 off their Christmas lists because no one who hasn’t already pre-ordered is likely to get their hands on one this year, making it a silly thing to recommend to desperate parents. (who else really follows those lists, anyway?) And at least one list aimed at parents of younger children cited it as not family friendly. Given that one of their ads managed to make chess gory, I’d say Sony has abandoned all thoughts of convincing parents that their console is kid-friendly. It’s curious to think that yet another generation could grow up very Nintendo-influenced, if only because their systems might be the only ones some parents feel comfortable buying.

“No Zune or PS3? What kind of Christmas list is this?!”

I guess that just goes to show you that there really isn’t that much UK buzz over the products. Heck, with all the PS3 setbacks, they probably won’t even have any for Europe this Christmas.
