Creative Takes Back FM Recording Functionality

Guess who the RIAA was able to roll over in its latest attempt at destroying the world? If you guessed Creative, you win a prize. Your prize is the newly found inability to do something with your MP3 player that you previously could. It seems that due to “licensing issues,” Creative has removed the functionality of its Zen Vision:M to record live FM broadcasts. I wonder how they came to that decision.
Second part of the quiz. Guess who has a Zen Vision:M, has loved it up until this day, and now refuses to upgrade his firmware because he likes to record “This American Life?” Me.

This won’t entirely assuage your R.I.A.A. frustration, but I thought you’d like to know This American Life is now available as a free podcast (http://www.thislife.org/pages/podcasts.html)?

In case you’re wondering, 1.41.01 DOES allow FM recording. I upgraded last week & my test worked. I guess they’ll implement the restriction in 1.50.02. If Creative pulls the 1.41 download, I cached it here:

If video, faster startup and navigation are enhanced, I think I’ll upgrade. I know it’s the princapal of the matter, but I don’t care about the FM recording…

ZEN Vision M FM Recording…If Creative was attempting a full featured competition with iPod, they have shot themselves in the foot. I for one am now an advocate for Pirate Firmware that makes improvements but retains the original specifications.
As others have said, they may not be using the FM recording feature frequently, if at all, but it is a matter of principle to protest the trivial supression of a handy and harmless feature.
Someone was in bed with someone in the RIAA on this. RIAA are Nazi wannabees.
