I too bought the hdc1000 and find it to be an unstable waste of money. I've had it freeze up at a couple of weddings to say the least!!! IT now sits in my closet in the box. I decided to buy the numark d2 and this seems to work great. However, it has a little hesitating when loading another track in side B when side A is playing a song. It's noticable and embarassing. So what I do is play a track from a cd and then load track A and B while the cd is playing. After A and B are played, I play another track from a cd. Does anyone have a solution to this? I am running a Western Digital 500 GB hard drive with 75% free space.

I found the unit to be temperamental when the MP3 tags haven't been cleaned up with a program like MP3Tag. There is more information on this on the Cortex forums.

Also, it's important that you create a database using the supplied software for your PC/Mac.

It's not the most robust piece of kit when it comes to playing mp3s 'out of the box' but you can workaround the skipping problems, mostly by sorting the tags out.

I really need a stable unit. I been trying to work with fixing the crashing/freezing problem and So far I can not. I use virtual DJ on my laptop and dont have to worry about the crashing. I really think i lost alot of money on this unstable junk. Is there anybody that has found the fix to this problems. The unit is all looks without any put out. Plus has the nerve to talk about a laptop being fragile. I'll rather do fragile then unstable any day.

After downloading the lastest firmware my unit will crash within 10 minutes of playing . I tried 3 different hard drives and still crashes. Could the unit be a defect ?

Nice review, I have the same question that DJ Jagged had, Is there a BPM display? Having asked that, there is also another music controller called Numark D2 Director that has that and other features. They're about the same price, which is better?
Thanks

Hello DJ Jagged,

There is no crossfader on the unit. The Cortex HDC1000 is designed to be a premium playback solution, but does not replace the need for a good mixer for the professional DJ.

Yes, you can set the unit to adjust the tempo and/or the pitch. Master Tempo allows you to speed up a song, but without distorting the audio band.

I do not believe BPM is displayed natively on the machine. But I will definitely look into that one ;)

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the review. I saw an ad for the Cortex unit in the latest issue of Club Systems International and was intrigued.

I didn't see a crossfader on the unit. How do you mix from Channel A to Channel B on these units?

For the pitch wheel, when adjusting the tempo, is the pitch maintained?

Last, is Beat Per Minute data prominently displayed on the screen?

Thank you.
