Best Buy Gets Into Wii

Getting ready for the upcoming launch of the Nintendo Wii, Best Buy has put together a huge section to market the new gaming console. If you’ve seen the PlayStation 3 kiosks in stores, you know that the Nintendo Wii section blows it out of the water.
It seems as though everyone is really pushing the marketing of the Wii console over the PS3. It’s probably because PS3 will sell without help, and that Wii is the cheaper, more “family friendly” console. Either way, the section looks very cool. So far, only store employees are allowed to demo the Wii (which is why there are no controllers out anywhere). The white boxes are supposed to be Wii (and maybe GameCube) games. I need to get to one and check this display out.

Cool article, and one of the only ones I’ve seen where some mentions both the Wii and PS3 without trashing one. Cant wait to head to Best Buy.

This Wii section looks really cool I can’t wait to see people crowding around it at Best Buy.

my plan for the next generation is wait and see. i might not get any consoles at launch, but i will see how they fare. If the wii has an impact, or if the ps3 has an impact. or if the tiliting in the controler is a gimmick

This is totally false. I work at best buy in burbank california. Were not even getting any wii’s in for another month, and have NO information WHATSOEVER about a wii kiosk.
this is a very elaborate lie.

Scratch that..not like a month obviously less as it has to be in stock when it launches the 19th.
I personally have not heard anything, and they have this huge thing built up.
Whatev.
In a month everyone who wants a wii will have a wii.

So i guess this isnt official, as im not a reliable/official rep for best buy, but yah.
Anyway it doesnt really matter as in a month everyone who wants a wii will have one. Amen.

If you notice, it says revision. Also, if you zoom in, on the lower lefthand corner it is dated either August 16th or 18th (it gets blurry when you zoom). It could very well have been a proposed format but not the final one.

I like the idea that a $700 video game console will “sell without help”.
I’m a bit more skeptical of the PS3’s ability to take over the market.

are you serious??? this article is bogus… Let me clear this up. THIS IS FAKE. If you zoom in or carefully read the sign on the display, youll notice that racquet is spelt wrong! Doubt Bestbuy would have done that. Also there is no actual record of any bestbuys even opening any thing yet. Just a big scam. But it does look good and would be a great idea for nintendo.

That is fake. That is not even the shape of a Wii box, and I hear there are spelling errors in the “accompanying literature.”

Of course it’s fake, and of course there are going to be mistakes in various aspects. It’s a digital blueprint. I used to work at Best Buy, and we would receive these sort of schematics all the time so we knew which sections to shift around to prepare. It’s not supposed to be a 100% accurate photograph. So, while individual parts are incorrect, I’m sure the actual thing will look very similar to this horribly ‘fake’ picture.
