I encountered a problem with my Nyko Charge Station 360; I tried to plug the batteries into the charger and they would not charge, but when I put them in the controller – nothing happened – no power! The problem is that when Nyko ships the batteries, they have no charge on them, so the smart charger chip thiks the batteries are broken and so it will not charge them. I was told by a customer service rep that I should put the batteries in the charger for 1 minutes, take them out for 30 minutes and then put them back in – this would jump start them into the charge state. It worked for one battery, but not the other. An alternate solution proposed to me was to buy the “play and charge” kit which would jump start the batteries, but I didn’t feel like paying the extra money. So here is the final solution I developed – be aware, it does require technical knowledge and access to electronic equipment.
Unplug the charger kit. Opnen up the back of the case by taking out the 8 screws (4 are under the foot pads). From this view you can see the 6 contact points on each side that connect to the batteries on the other side. Place a battery that will not charge in one of the battery holders. I will refer to the six contacts and one through six, starting with one on the left. Use a multimeter or voltmeter to measure the voltage across contacts two and six (positive on two). You should see a very small voltage. The idea is to jump that up above 1 V. I used a DC power supply set to 1.5 V and connected the positive end to the contact two and the negative end to contact six – this will start to manually charge your battery. Use the voltmeter to measure the voltage across the two-six contacts as you charge (you’ll have to remove the power supply lead to do so). When you read a voltage of about .75 V, up the power supply to about 2.3 V and continue manually charging. Use the voltmeter to measure the voltage again and continue charging until you read a voltage of over 1 V across contacts two-six. At this point, keep the power supply connected and plug in the charger unit. You should see the red LED light up from under the charger unit. Once this happens, disconnect your power supply and your battery will now be jump started into the charge state. Let the battery charge for a little while (all the way if you want), then repeat as needed on the second battery. Once both batteries are charged, remove them, unplug the charger again and put the case and foot pads back on. Now you’re ready to go.
I hope this helps someone, because I had to figure it out by experimentation. There is no solution posted on the web anywhere, so maybe this will be the start of one. Good luck and enjoy hours of gaming fun.
your right you are the only one on the web who was smart enough to leave this. i will take a different approuch to this, i will just charge a battery one at a time using another controler while i play.
I bought a set and I couldn’t get them to charge. I took it back to target. Got another set. Wouldn’t charge either. I found this information. Turns out mine came with clear tape over the contacts of each battery. Once removed the tape, bam!! I can now charge both batteries. They should put sa label on the battery or in the documentation telling you to remove tape first.
I bet they got a lot of these back because of this.
My problem is that they will not charge the microsoft batteries. I already had two of those, saw this gadget in the store and thought now I can always have two on the ready when I’m playing two player at home. But I have to charge the microsoft batteries using the charge and play and these Nykos in their own charger. Why wouldn’t they be the same? Also, the Nykos don’t fit quite right in the controller. Really tight and you have to shoehorn them in. Seems they could make them fit right.
I am having a problem with mine. They work with one of my controllers. It powers on the other one, but will not connect to my xbox 360, any ideas, email me systemofadown_christopher@yahoo.com

Same problem here – brand new elite controler and the batteries from the NYKO charging station will turn on the controler but the lights on it just keep flashing and it does not connect to the console . it works fine with older controlers though.
Just so no one thinks the above problems aren’t true, I also have the Nyko station, and the batteries will work with one of my controllers, but not the one that came with the XBOX 360. It just keeps flashing and will not connect to the console. I put the same battery in my other remote and it powered right up.
Called the company where I bought the XBOX and they wanted me to return the XBOX because it must be “damaged” and I tried to explain to them that it’s fine, these batteries just don’t work with one of the controllers. Then said they had no more XBOXs in stock. Nice.
So I either have to get a Microsoft charging station, or perhaps find out why these don’t work. I doubt there’s anything that can be done to GET them to work either. Kinda tickin’ me off, I just paid $600 for all this stuff.
hey i have the same problem. got the charge station plugged the batteries in it, let them charge for 4 hours or so. the charge station leds turned off just like it said they would. got home plugged them into my elite controller and they were kinda tight, but fit. turned on the controller but the would not connect to the 360… WTF?
any body have any info on these?

According to Nyko customer support an update from Microsoft cause the battery not to be recognized. You can ship the charge station back with a note explaining the issue and they will replace it. The fix is so new that the stores are not guaranteed to have the fixed chargers.
finally some people with the same problem my elite controller won’t connect to it and i read on the internet one article on this.(thats right ONE). It said that the newer xbox models locked out nyko supplies. i got it to work one time when my other batteries died and i went to the dashboard and replaced it with the nyko and it worked.!!!!!:) but then i went to my friends house and it did not work so i tryed it in one of his older controllers and it worked immediatly. then when i got back home it DID NOT WORK AGAIN…. and i couldn’t get it to work after that.. if any of you figure out the problem please XBL message me “MaStAeVaN 007″ or my email fathed455@yahoo.com
I followed the MANUAL JUMPSTART CHARGING instructions from Jesse (the first post on this page) almost to the letter. and they did not work.
1. unplugged from the wall, I removed the back of the charging unit
2. I placed one of the DEAD batteries in the unit and turned it upside down to expose the opened back
3. I connected a 6 volt battery (from my camping lantern) using wires and small nails wedged under the #2 and #6 copper posts
3. I waited 10 minutes to check and see if any ‘juice’ was getting saved over to the chargable batteries.
4. I kept checking volt meter on the batteries but only bits of saved power ever appeared.
The jumpstart method is also suggested on the Nyko support page: “when the batteries are completely drained. To “jump start” the batteries, simply attached a Power Kit, Play and Charge kit or other USB based charging solution for the 360 Wireless Controller for approximately 15 seconds. I didn’t have any other way to fix this other than a Manual Jumpstart method – so I guess these batteries don’t hold any charge.
