Nyko’s Intercooler Causes Problems For Xbox 360

The Intercooler is a 3-fan venting system that attaches to the back of the Xbox 360, keeping the console cool and improving console performance. Seeing as how my Xbox 360 has never given me any problems (and it’s from the first batch of consoles), I haven’t gotten a chance to use the Intercooler myself, which turns out to be a good thing. Nyko’s Intercooler has been named a cause for Xbox 360’s “rings of death” (red lights that flash on your Xbox 360 console telling you that you’re screwed). Once these lights come on, owners usually have to contact Xbox support and send their consoles back in for repair.

Game World Industries contacted a couple different Microsoft customer service representatives to talk about the issue, both reps stated that the Intercooler causes problems for the Xbox 360. The first representatives stated that Nyko’s Intercooler drains too much power from the Xbox 360, which was manufactured with enough power to support only itself. The Intercooler drains a large amount of power when the console starts up, which causes certain components to not get the power they need to run correctly, which can then lead to the death of the console. The second rep stated that they had seen “scorch marks” on the console from the Intercooler – probably just dust. If you send in your Xbox 360 and these scorch marks are present, Microsoft will send you your console back untouched (The Intercooler is not a licensed Microsoft product). They did, however, recommend switching to Pelican’s fan stand, which connects to the console via USB.

When Aaron, from Gaming World Industries, bought the Intercooler himself to test out the product, it only worked for 2 months before it killed his Xbox 360. He called Nyko for an explanation, it stated that like most products on the market, the Intercooler has a small defect rate and is a reliable product. Now, no one really knows who to blame. Is Microsoft using the Nyko’s Intercooler as a scapegoat? Or is Nyko essentially responsible for Xbox 360 deaths? Perhaps, with the rise of the Wii, the point will be moot.

  • I have a intercooler and the issue does not seem to be fatal. The power connection in the back of the cooler is not a secure as the 360’s own plug. The cable comes out slowly and cause the 3 red lights. I turn it off and push the plug back in and turn it back on. However I have started to wonder how many times that will work.

    • does it really melt inside the powere slot for xbox???

      • michael w harley - May 10th, 2009 at 8:34 pm GMT+5

I sure wish you could see the burn and melting inside my cooler, I had to use dental picks to pull out the melted nyko cooler plug that went into my Xbox, lucky, after plugging the cord in where it should ALWAYS have been plugged in IT WORK. Throw that Crap away and Sue the Company, I’d like too, and may yet, if I get no comment on the DAMAGE it done.

    • DON’T DO THAT MY XBOX360 INTERCOOLER CAUGHT ON FIRE 5 MINUTES AGO {DO NOT DO THAT} TAKE OUT THE INTER COOLER AND CHECK IF ANY PLASTIC IS IN THE POWER PLUG AND LEAVE IT UNPLUGED

      • Is there NO way to make them PAY, this is not “RIGHT” and they should be cruified < how do I get a new Xobx out of them, Or should I find AWAY to BURN there PLANT down like they could have burned my HOME down, and really melted up my plug, keeps falling out… REALLY F-PISSED_OFF..

    • Oh my people bitchn about intercoolers geeze thats why there is this fine peicec of equipment it isssssssss….

    • My console got banned a few weeks back and I was wondering is there anyway to get the red rings on purpose so I can send it in I own an intercooler I used it last time and got the red rings on my last xbox is there anythings I can do ?

  • The xbox 360 users a liquid cooling device which is attached striaght on the C.P.U and G.P.U of the console itself. I would say that the water cooling device in the xbox 360 console keeps the console at exactly 80~~76degrees in that being sayed if you go to xbox.com they will tell you that the xbox 360 console does ~not~ need any help from the intercooler because it also has two 60milimeter fans keeping it cooler with the heat externally being pushed out the console side ventalation. the xbox 360 console will also tilt the fans by itself so the air flow will always change on the inside of the console and with the new heat sensor microproccesing chips which have to tell the fans how fast the R.P.Ms must go to keep the console itself cool or cooler. Now the reason the console could be over heating is that the heat sensor microproccesors would maybe going out at the time of the first 3 months of the console’s activity.

    Thank You, for your question about the InterCooler and I think that I have solved the problems. . . . . . . . . . . . .

    • Is your 360 self modded with luiquid colling?
      Are you just extremely stupid?
The Xbox 360 does NOT come with liquid cooling inside!
There is a HEATPIPE on the processor but a heatpipe is just copper that helps release heat. There is in no way liquid cooling in the machine. The machine also runs at aprox 90-135degrees. No where near 80. I have seen some nice self modded Xbox 360s on Youtube that have self-setup liquid cooling machines hooked up to them and they do run at about 76-90degrees.

    • uhuhahahahahahahaha

“liquid cooling and self tilting fans”

dude what? theres no liquid cooling. that was a rumor back before the console even came out. and the fans are solidly in place

  • I own a Nyko Intercooler and I also am one of those people that got the Ring of Death, twice. So I decided to take the intercooler off and I have never had that problem again. So I recommend taking your intercooler off as soon as possible before you receive the Ring of Death parentally.

  • Disapointed Intercooler 360 User - October 27th, 2006 at 1:00 pm GMT+5

I purchased my XBox 360 on Launch Day and it’s still going strong! I have since however gone through two intercoolers causing the 3 red lights in the ring. Each time, the electrical connection failed and created an electrical arc that left scorch marks where the intercooler attached to the back of the 360 unit’s power connect prongs. The first time it happened, the intercooler was fused to one of the black plastic insulator prongs on the 360 and it (the 360’s black insulator) actually broke off into the intercooler’s connection port upon removal.

Fortunately for me, the 360 still works fine without the intercooler as I’ve reconnected the power supply directly as designed. For additional cooling I’m using an off the shelf USB powered,dual-fan notebook computer cooling pad. Is it necessary? I’ve never had a console failure due to overheating, so I really don’t know.

I do find it troubling that I may not receive warranty service from Microsoft if they were to determine that my having used the intercooler is responsible for damages. I’ve never had any problems with my 360 and I hope I never have to contact Microsoft for repairs under their extended warranty program.

Bottom line… the intercooler should not be used on the XBox 360 under any circumstances. It’s a piece of junk that has the potential to turn your Beautiful XBox 360 into it’s illegitimate twin!

    • Wait, how in the world did you fix your xbox 360 when you get the 3 red lights in the ring? Its happend to me before but it was flashing so I had to turn my xbox off fast. Im afraid that next time that happens it will be for good…help?

  • I have had an intercooler on my 360 since my original launch console began to freeze/display artifacts. 4 days later I got my new console from MS and hooked up the Pelican Fan Stand and the Nyko Intercooler and haven’t had a problem since (using the loose assumption that the failure was due to overheating).

I checked my power prongs tonight and there is no scorching, still looks sparkly and clean. I have my doubts as to whether or not the intercooler actually causes damage. First off, the product has been on the shelves for a while now and there haven’t been any complaints until now. Also, looking at this response forum, there aren’t that many people saying they have had the same problems with the intercooler. Not to say that the intercooler, or some defective units, aren’t causing the red rings of death but just that I have some doubts. However, just to be safe I am going to disconnect my intercooler and just run the fan stand.

My personal complaint about the Nyko fanstand is that the unit is so freakin’ loud! I have taken it apart and oiled each individual fan but the unit still requires earplugs when in use. The power cable also fits VERY loosely into the intercooler. Additionally, the design of the intercooler is that so the wireless network adapter can’t fit onto the back of the 360 console. So, just by looking at how poorly the Nyko Intercooler was built I wouldn’t be suprised that if it did break the 360 when in use.

  • I was at the launch party for the 360 and picked up a couple, 8 months in one of my consoles bit the dust and MS gladly replaced it. Fearing another meltdown I went out and got an intercooler and put it on. The new console worked for about two months without a hitch then the xbox started just completely shutting down. I called MS furious about the problem and they took me step by step through the process of checking everything, when it got to the part of unplug I noticed the intercooler was scorched. Removed it and the xbox has never had another problem.

  • I took mine off because it was causing the ring od death and I haven’t had any problems since but I will never buy another Nyko intercooler fan as it doesn’t even seem to cool the system very well.

  • Do Not buy it, Gave me red rings of death. I took it back thinking it be faulty and the replacement does the same. Without it the xbox works fine. Not worth the money.

  • The X360 is a piece of shit. I played it for 20 hours from 2/1/2006 to 7/22/2006. I put a game I got for my birthday and boom “red ring of death”. Many people have had the same problem and filed a class-action that I am apart of. The 3 rings happen by themself.

  • I haven’t put the Intercooler OR the fan stand on my 360 consoles. Yes, that’s plural. I’m on my 3rd Xbox 360 because they crapped out. In fact, the replacement I got from Microsoft died faster than the first one (practically right out of the UPS box). So, it can be said that the 360 has a large percentage of defective units and using no fan can still cause death. I blame faulty manufacturing.

That being said, if cooling the system can help, then I suppose the Pelican fan stand is the way to go. But I won’t use it because I’m not going to get up everytime I want to use my 360. That’s a major benefit to the system for me. Also, I keep my 360 down on its side and not standing. There are obvious benefits with disc scratching for stand-up consoles. Also, I hear that the Intercooler is too loud. My TV makes enough funny noises already and the 360 is notibly noisey. ALSO, I keep my system in Yaffa Blocks. You know, those plastic crate-like units. If the sytem can’t keep cool on its own in a basically no-walled area, then Microsoft is to blame for their defective product. That’s probably why they’re replaced my system twice with no questions asked.

So, to Pelican and Nyco I say: Make a fan that makes no noise, can work with the system in the horizontal position, and does not void the warrenty. Hmmm, someone call Microsoft.

Besides, my girlfriend is in love with Viva Pinata! and needs to play it to death.

  • Justin, I am very interested in that class action lawsuit against MS. I am currently on my 6th 360, bought two and microsoft replaced 4. I have all past history notes of my complaints and I also reported them to the Better Business Bureau. Let me know. Thanks

  • For those of you interested in the class action lawsuit, everything is here, just fill out the form.

  • ROFLMFAO…! First of all… If you manage to go through that many 360’s it would be because you obviously do not know how to take proper care of the 360… There are defected systems out there yes… every console system has defective systems… but you simply do not go through that many systems because they are all “defective”… learn how to manage a 360 properly and you will find that it was your problem not MS…

    P.S.
The NYKO intercooler is definately not a good product. It draws power from the 360s power supply. If you are looking for a good intercooler try the new PELLICAN intercooler. It runs through the USB.

    • hey retard the failure rate of the xbox 360 is 1/3
so its microsofts problem not ours

      • wow you guys are idiots, i’ve had my 360 since 2005 and never had a problem with it, and i dont have the intercooler either and still never had a problem or anything so…….idk i think you guys dont know how to take care of em

  • hello im on my 2 nd 360 console witch is coming back from reapairs the disc tray was malfunctioning it was jamming and not opening had to take the face plate of and open it manualy nay way i boufght a nyko intercooler 2 the first time i pluged it in i got rings red rings 3 of them flashing i restarted the console checked the conection was ok loose connection i got rings twice i had the cooler on for a while after it seemed ok no problems i never really had over heating problems although it does get a bit warm and blows alot of hot air out ,ive stopped using the intercooler had no problems its quiter now i just thought i would try out the intercooler waste of 40$ i reckon now that i know it drains power i wont be putting it back on thanks for all the info

  • i bought one of those nyko intercoolers too. it was ok for about 3 weeks then all of a sudden i got this loud noise from it. so i disconnected it i then played without it for a while but then my 360 kept crashing so i put the intercooler in again and it worked, for about 3 days then those loud noises came back with the occasion red ring. to be honest i dont know what to make of this intercooler can somebody please help me??!!!!

  • Hey I have had the intercooler and the fanstand for a while now and I Brought my 360 in Feb of this year. All in all I think the Nyko Intercooler is a great product and the stint you all have witht the noise is over-rated. I am in a Field Artillery unit in the Marines and that is noise. You all who are complianing about a fan really need to re-evaluate what is important a running 360 or a fan that supports it even though the motor in it makes a gyrating sound. I guess some people just like to be in on the “in crowd” and sound cool that is an over emphasized comment. If you really want to hear noise try getting shot at in Iraq once in a while.

  • I had my 360 for a while and I heard that alot of them are over heating so I bought the Nyko intercooler. About one month later it crashes, coming up with some unknown error. So I took it apart (cuz i had no warranty) cleaned it all out and saw nothing wrong. So put it back together and it is actually getting a known code, it thinks it is overheating, even though it has been off for days at normal room temperture. It worked fine before hand I just wanted to be safe and get one anyway. So it is sounding like everyone else is saying is going wrong.

  • I own an intercooler, as well. It does not work, and is incredibly noisy. I have suffered under the reign of the “ring of death”, my reccomendations would be to take it off, however if you’re stubborn enough to keep it on, i would suggest a memory card, because if you need to replace your Xbox 360, you will lose all of your data on your hard drive, which contains your saves, downloads, and profiles. If you have a return policy on the game that which was in the console during the “ring of death”, now would be a good time to have it, because even if you could take out the disc, it will most likely be damaged. Don’t buy it if you dont own it, because you might as well be paying someone $20 to wreck your 360.

  • I just don’t know why my xbox 360 stopped working…I took the 2 vcr’s and 1 dvd player that was sitting on top of it, lifted it off the furnace vent, and looked underneath. I didn’t see any problems. So then I let my 360 sit for a bit, then I turned it on. Lo and behold! It works again, thus replenishing my faith in Microsoft. So I then put it back on the furnace vent, put the 2 vcr’s and 1 dvd player on it, and turned it back on. Within 5 minutes, the problem came back, with the hardware failure warning looking me in the face on the TV screen.
    I was helluva upset.
But then I realized the problem. The batteries on my controller were low. I am confident that I have now repaired any problems with my Microsoft Xbox 360, and have nothing to worry about anymore. Damn, its getting cold in here. I wish I could figure out what is blocking my furnace vents to make the house so cold. Excuse me, I must go turn the heat up in here…

Moral of the story? Many of us are frustrated about breaking 360’s. And it is NOTHING of our doing. People who say you hooked it up wrong, lay off the crack pipe, how hard is it to connect 2 or 3 wires? Hasn’t been increasing in difficulty since Atari 2600, or even earlier.
The problem is is that there is an inferior product on the market here. Don’t get me wrong, I love my Gears of War, Tiger Woods 07, and whatever other games I have chose to buy. Xbox live is also great, but these things are hard to enjoy when there are people constantly sending these consoles back or having problems with them because they are broken because of defective internal components. I have returned one, and play with baited breath waiting for those three red lights to redden my mood (don’t worry, crack pipe users, both the A/V cables and the power cord are proplerly plugged in). For $500, we shouldn’t have to bloody worry about our new ‘toy’ breaking. But we have to. It really sucks.
Microsoft, please fix these damn problems. Otherwise, there’ll be a big can of whoop ass comin your way. Peace out.

  • Microsoft should have a class action suit filed against them for fraud & coverup of the Xbox System failures. I know countless players who are on their third Xbox replacement because of the overheating and Red lights of DEATH. Microsoft knows that 90% + of the boxes have took dump or will! They are still shipping them to the stores that way.

  • By the way, why on earth should we have to bye Intercoolers and a half a dozen or more fans for a $500.00 Xbox unit anyway? Should it not have a proper cooling system on it, are we idiots? Stand up for your rights and start complaining to CBS, ABC, NBC News Channels. Call 20/20 or one of thoses news hounds that run Microsoft through the mill!

  • I got the “ring of death” and plenty of frozen screens and the whole time I thought it was my xbox.. I tried to take off the Intercooler and nearly broke my xbox getting that piece of shit off…

check em out.. my xbox I believe works properly..

this product needs to be taken off the market.. I told my friend to get one and am sorry I did, its a piece..

  • OMG. I wish I would have read this stuff before I got one. I just got a brand spanking new system 2 days ago. I put the intercooler on from day 1. By day 2 I have already seen the rings of death twice. I took it off and now it works without a hitch. Nyko can go suck some balls or something because this thing is a time bomb waiting to happen. People that are reading this now because they were going to buy an intercooler to “Prolong” the life of there 360’s, heed my word. I strongly, with all my might, urge you not to buy this piece of crap, unless also have enough money to go out and buy another 360 in a few weeks. Me personally, I am not giving it the chance to ruin my fine system.

  • Wow..hard to believe im seeing this shit.bought one of Nyko`s fans a while back and so far have had no probs except the bearings sound really dry and loud to excess.also had the occasional game freeze but not much else.i have taken it off now and even tho there is no scortch marks its not going back on.why do people sometimes read the stories and see the pics that shows its true but still risk it because it cost them £12.00 or so.Nyko you can kiss my ass and stick your dodgy product where its best suited.

plus…i think Mr Gates should of sorted the 360 overheating issue out before releasing flame grilled xbox360s to the buying public but then it seems tha any product that has some form of windows built into it or to do with Microsoft has either bugs or viruses in it so no shock there…and with being the richest guy on the planet he could at least take the public who save what they can to buy one and at least make his products work properly.good console and graphics but altogether a somewhat rushed product.

    rant over

  • Who is the dumb motherf*cker that thinks his 360 is WATER COOLED?
If the 360 was water cooled, there wouldnt be THOUSANDS of people whose GPUs have overheated and had to send in one, two, or even three 360’s!! All thats inside are shitty heatsinks and dinky fans. At least NYKO tried to address the problem that 360 stock cooling will burn out your system WITHOUT ADDING ANY FANS! So their product sucks, yes, but its better than nothing – do your research! Ill water cool that dumbasses 360 with my piss!

  • Glad I saw this site, I was thinking of buying a Nyko intercooler, its funny how you can read a review from a “pro” who tested it once and says its great, and then come to a site like this and see what users who have had the thing for a few days think of it.

water cool your xbox 360? http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=OTM5 enjoy.

  • I had a Nyko Intercooler got the “ring of death,” took it of and have had no problems since. That however has not settled my mind over the amout of heat this system generates. So I have a laptop cooler on the bottom, and I built from the Intercooler and 2 80mm a seperate cooling system that pulls no power from the 360. I ran it for over an hour to test it and then took it off my 360 and the air coming out of the system was COOL, not hot like usual. Noise was an issue, but saving a $400+ dollar investment in entertainment is worth the trade off.

  • the intercooler is fine UNTIL a dust cloggage at the CPU heatsink occurs inside the 360. I noticed faster accumulations of dust on all my ventholes when using the intercooler. I got the 3 red light and took the case off to reveal the dust cloggage which overheated it.

  • I am thinking to build a cheap cooler for my 360 but i don’t have a good idea, does anybody have any ideas???

  • Does anybody have any ideas for making a cheap cooling system for the 360?

  • I have had my 360 for over a year now and put the Nyko cooling fan on it the day I got it.For the most part my 360 has been working fine.I have got the 3 red rings about five or six times but see that it’s due to the wire pluging in the back of the fan comes loose.I pulled the plug out and noticed that the fan had scorch marks where you plug it in at but no damage to the actuale 360.My 360 never seems to get too hot and I play for five six hours at a time. After reading all these reviews I think I might take off the fan and see what happens. Because after all there was a little scorching on the fan and I did see those dreadful red lights one too many times.

  • The Nyko Intercooler is on its 5th Generation as we speak they are releasing a new product, the Nyko Intercooler EX.

This device features many new features, including better and quieter fans.

If the intercooler has caused ANY PROBLEMS with your 360 of if any NYKO product goes bad, CALL NYKO. they will be happy tp replace your 360, intercooler and anything else that got damaged.

My 360 caught on fire due to the intercooler. They took care of me, as well as you too.

  • Intercooler customer - March 15th, 2007 at 11:43 am GMT+5

My Xbox 360 was damaged as well from the Nyko Intercooler. It actually melted to my Xbox 360 in the power socket. I called Nyko, and they told me to send my ‘premium’ Xbox 360 and Intercooler to them for repair. They were unable to repair the socket, so they replaced it with a new ‘premium’ one! Plus, they gave me their new version of the Intercooler, “EX”. The service was excellent and quick (as fast as possible with shipping today), and the people there were very nice.
A few faulty products are inevitable when so many are produced, take the Xbox 360 itself for instance. Many consoles broke, or melted as well for the first while.

  • I had this problem, red ring of death with the NyKo intercooler. I removed it and it has been working perfectly ever since. :D

  • Just got my Nyko intercooler yesterday, and its already fucked my system up to the point where I pissed on my xbox, and sent it in to microsoft. Congratufuckinglations Nyko, suck my balls.

  • HEY PEOPLE! THANKS FOR THE GREAT INFO!

  • fukk microsoft…fukk em in the ass, HARD…bill gates is a prick…fist he says that Windows XP is “uncrashable”, i’ve had to take my computer in for repairs COUNTLESS times, many times with the same problems…God only knows what problems the Windows Vista will have…my original xbox has always worked fine. there were a few instances where the system would freeze, but all in all it worked fine…the 360, man, oh man, problem after problem after problem…ever since i first got that piece of shit, i’ve had problems…i got the system which included GRAW, and i had to take the disc back to Bestbuy 3 times because the 360 couldn’t read it!!…how fukked is that…then there was the over-heating issue…my xbox used to heat up like crazy…i bought my 360 back in december 2006, just before christmas…i got the nyko intercooler a few days later…i’ve never had any problems what-sp-ever….none…there were a few times i received the ring of death, but it was completely unrelated to the intercooler…a couple of times the hydro cut out and took the 360 with it…only then was the ring od death present, when the power was turned off correctly….however, i have noticed how the intercooler draws power from the system…the last time that happend, my 360 couldnt power up my wi-fi adapter…i had to take off the intercooler, and plug the power source directly to the 360, and only then was the power distributed evenly and began working properly again…other than that, i’ve never had any problems with my intercooler…it works fine, and the one i have does not have a switch on the back to turn it on/off….either way, i think alot of people here do not know how to take care of their systems….im 22 years old, and i’ve been playing video games since i was 3….and in all my years, in all the friends houses i’ve been in and played games, not one of them took proper care of their system….i keep my 360 properly ventilated…READ THE MANUALS before you operate ANY device, including the games…knowledge is power….that doesn’t excuse the fact that microsoft NEEDS to take their “next-gen” garbage and shove it straight up their azzholes….a couple games i have for my 360 dont even work online…and to add to that, the problems i had with GRAW when i first got my system…the problem is not with the intercooler, not with the games, its with microsoft….they are monopolizing on everything, they know that they can make these faulty products and because of their name, they will sell it….but no great empire has ever lasted, neither will microsoft…wait until Apple comes out with their own video game console, microsoft will be blown out of the water…

  • on my 3rd 360 and this 3rd one is being sent out as soon as the box from MS arrives!!!! also, they werent repaired but brand new systems from extended warranty at EBgames. I’m a hardcore game fan, but I really dont actually play the system very much. i probably pop in a game 2-4 times per week for a 2-3 hours at a time. i only play games maybe 8hrs staright when i first buy a new one, which may be 1 game every 1-2 months. so i literally can say my system is on for a total of 20-25hrs a month. when im not playing, i put a t-shirt over the console to protect it from dust too. I BABY THIS THING!! never had any fan or intercooler at all. it is in a completely open tower/shelf. not even a back board to put the wires through. I also live in a lower level apartment which is sub-level so my place is ALWAYS cool. THE 360 IS FLAWED!!!! I honestly rather take my chances with the intercooler. i bought the newer improved EX model last night. I have no problem giving it a shot. from what i read about people saying there sytem being shot sounds like its just the 360 dying on its own JUST LIKE THE 3 I HAVE!!! i do see that there is a problem with the connection though. when your systems fused to the fan its definitley an intercooler problem!!! this new EX model says it has new metal connections so ill give them the benefit of the doubt on it. im sure they want to do everything they can to fix this fan of theirs. number one, they dont want to have to replace your system, and #2, they dont want to have a bad product and bad name for themselves. so like i said, ill give this new one a shot and hope they got it right with the upgrades. I CAN SAY WITH NO HESITATION…MS JUMPED THE GUN WITH THE RELEASE AND SOLD US A FLAWED XBOX 360!!! IT JUST WAS NOT READY YET!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ive had had two xbox 360’s and the second one just died on me. ive also had two intercoolers and i bought the second one when the fans started making a really loud noise sounding like the bearings were getting ready to go. right after the fans started that my 360 died :( . so when i got the fixed one from microsoft i bought the second intercooler, and the fans did the same thing and then out of the blue my second 360 died, so im going to take the safe rout, im trading the 360 i get back in and purchasing the new elite, hopefully it wont die, and i am not putting a intercooler on it. i think that nyko should redesign a new cooling system for it cause i know that the 360 runs hot. but you never know i guess. as for microsoft they need to add better cooling for there system!

  • I have owned an xbox 360 since march 2006 and my xbox has never given me the ring of death and i live in jamaica where its hotter than a kettle out here and i play gears of war online ten to eleven hours at a a time and it still does not freeze up. all factory parts no added fans.

  • Yo is it possible to have the Nyko intercooler and the Pelican fan stand on the same xbox both working at the same time?

  • I bought da nyko intercooler jus last week n wen i playd gears of war 4 bout 30 minutes da 360 jus turned off n the three red rings came up. as soon as i saw dat i got up n took it off immediatly. after i took it off ma 360 workd alrite. i guess i gotta jus leave my ac on at max n point it on ma 360 2 keep it cooled. im never gonna buy a product 4rm nyko ever again

  • yeah i bought a intercooler from nyko the reason i played perfect dark for about three hours and my shit froze and then i decided to buy it i did a little noisy and when i went to take it off the piece that goes into the 360 broke so i had to pop it back in and its fine it actually is a little cooler i do recomend just keep receipt worst case scenario you take back get twenty bucks and it most definetly doesnt break the xbox

  • yeah the intercooler is good what ray said up there the peice does break if you dont take off right but a good buy it is ok the connection loose at first you just have to push in a little bit and it grabs fine and sometimes its a little noisy because the cord that goes into tv goes in front of fan just move and fan should be average noise again but a overall good buy for twenty

  • The fact is, if it’s not an officially licensed Microsoft product, DON’T BUY IT!!!! If the 360 really intended to have more fans, MICROSOFT WOULD HAVE PUT MORE FANS ON IT!!!

  • living in mexico
I’ve had 2 boxes so far. The first one melt down after 6 months (no prob, i got a new one). The second last for 2 months (unplayable disk, it didnt read any single disk).
The funny thing is that i installed a nyko inter… in the second box after that, I got the ring of dead twice and then the unplayable disk message.
Now im on my 3 box. Im not gonna use the cooler anymore.
My conclusion: The system is definetely not well designed so there are many faulty consoles with different problematics, and in the other hand the cooler is not a neccesary device for the console (many of my friends have no intercooler and their consoles are running smoothly mmm mmm well besides disk tray problems….. now i understand why they release the HD lasser for 360.

  • guys there is a very easy way to fix this whole problem with nyko….JUST CALL THEM!!! i just called them as it killed my xbox 360 and they are paying for all shipping to send my broken 360 to there head office with the intercooler and they are going to send me a brand new xbox 360 aswell as there new updated intercooler..which i’m sure has been tested to the full extent as they don’t want a lawsuit on there hand.. just call they are more then happy to help you up and gaming again!

    peace

  • I bought my Xbox 360 about a month ago. I love so very much. I decided to get some accessories for it, because I am very careful with my xbox. I decided to get an intercooler because the summer time was approaching and I didn’t have an A/C in my room. What was that for?!?! The intercooler made my room smell like a burnt tire, and I saw that ring of death like 5 times until my xbox gave in. After getting some friends to test out my xbox at their home, I realized that it wasn’t my xbox that received damaged, but the power cord fused. Ironically, the product that I purchased to keep my xbox running cool was the exact thing that caused it to overheat. Therefore, making me purchase a power cord that runs at an astronomical price of $100. I cried in my sleep that night. One of the most devastating moments for me in gaming history.

  • question for everyone who left comments on this page
i know most of the problems are with the 1st generation intercoolers (the ones with the power switch) is anyone having problems with the 2nd or 3rf generation?
