The Nikkei Keizai Shimbun morning edition reported this morning that Sony will not hit its mark of 100,000 PlayStation 3 units in Japan. Component shortages have limited the release of the PlayStation 3 to 80,000 units, which will lead to 20,000 more disappointed Japanese gamers. Due to the shortage, many major retailers (as well as major online retailers) in Japan will no longer be taking pre-orders. You can bet that launch day for the PlayStation 3 is going to be absolutely insane in Japan.
I’m going out on a limb on this, but it also feels like Sony is going to announce that it will also miss its mark of 400,000 units in the U.S. If there’s a bigger shortage here, it’s going to make things even more crazy come launch week. I tried to make a pre-order at ToysRUs yesterday, and got there at 7 on Saturday night, and still missed the pre-order (ToysRUs only offered 6 PS3 preorders). People had been camping out since 4am Saturday morning! Hopefully that won’t be the case, and it won’t make things harder for anyone trying to get a PlayStation 3.
I think that’s why they call is playstation 3, there are only 3 units available for the US. Your better off with Wii!
no problem, X360 is doing ever worst that the Xbox in Japan, Sony only had to worry about wii but, with the sixaxis doing every thing the wiimote does i don’t think they’ll have to worry about anything.

well the PS3 is only 50 USD more expencive then the PS2 by the time of its release, plus you don’t have to pay 200USD for a HD-DVD…

Or maybe people who bought XBOX 360 will not buy the HD-DVD and instead spend that money on new games. They will wait and see which format wins and in case Blue ray does win MS will come out with a attachment for Blue Ray and that’s when XBOX owners will buy the HD drive (for which ever format wins). Anyone who buys into either one of the format right now is stupid or just rich (in which case its OK).
I am sure PS3 has had better technology than XBOX 360 but the extra buck is just not worth it.
I am not saying that it will not sell. I am sure it will and might sell more than XBOX 360, but its domination will be no where near what it used to be. Personally I like XBOX for making it affordable. Not everyone can own $500 gaming console. That why I dislike PS3.
