Now that WM6 is out, you can play games and such better. There is one high performance game you can use as a test. It's 2gb, but well worth it. I tried it out, and it works swimmingly as long as you have enough diskspace. The game is called Shadow of Legend. If you want to download the beta version, you can visit its website at http://www.shadowoflegend.com

[...] No. Leaked rebate forms and FCC filings are all we need. Look for this high-end Treo, running Windows Mobile 5: Phone Edition, and its 240×240 touchscreen, 1.3 Megapixel camera, and 3G data to hit sometime before Xmas, or I’ll eat my hat. At least a cake my girlfriend will make shaped like a hat. It will have espresso frosting. [...]

Great post, thanks for the chart including specs and prices.

One thing though is that you left out the vast array of ruggedized devices that run WM5 from companies like Symbol and Intermec. For the companies that we deal with here at www.pocketpcforms.com, they almost all are interested in something that can be dropped from 4 feet to a sidewalk and survive.

Well, on the VW5 points here are some of your errors...
I used to be a Psion user (3 different devices), moved to Palm with the Palm 5 and than the Treo 600, now I am planing on going to the VM5 with the 8525 (tried the 8125 in the past but the fact that there was no 'start' and 'ok' buttons on the front just killed the phone for me).

Palm OS phones are not more expensive. Palm is issuing cheaper Palm OS phones every time (see Treo 650 and Treo 680) while VM5 keeps getting more and more expensive (see the 8125 at $250 and now 8525 at $350)

Syncing Palm OS with Outlook and Office application is always easy, ActiveSync (VM5 sync) is not there yet. You got multiple issues with firewalls, antiviruses and what not. Just looks at the webforums.

Having said all of that, VM5 is the way of the future, Palm OS is going away slowly but surly. I just wish VM5 will eventually become as easy to use as Palm and Psion.

[...] CrunchGear are running a series of articles on the current models in the Smartphone market. This article is good, but the description of the relationship between Windows CE and Windows Mobile is that Windows Mobile is a subset of Windows CE. Strictly speaking Windows Mobile 5 is an operating system which is built from Windows CE. Windows CE 5.0 is a product which allows manufacturers of various types of devices to build operating systems for their products. Microsoft have at least 3 internal customers who use it in this way. There’s Windows Mobile for Automotive (Operating system for Cars and the like), an OS for Portable Media Centers (I think its called Windows Mobile for Portable Media Center) and finally there is Windows Mobile 5.0 which is currently a pair of operating systems for handheld devices. When the Windows Mobile 5.0 team build their operating system, they start by selecting a set of functionality from Windows CE which they want to include, then they add Windows Mobile specific drivers and a whole load of additional functionality like the Pocket Office applications and such.
