First, thanks for the link to Mark/Space -- I have had a Blackjack for 10 days and am trying to decide if I'll keep it or trade it for a Palm. I'm pretty sure that I would trade it in if I were a heavy user of web on the phone.

I just had my first Windows-required-reboot. I was trying to edit the pre-set Bookmarks. The App got "stuck" in the edit bookmark screen space -- all I could do was "save" (cancel didn't work and I couldn't progress thru the text fields). Each time the software would warn me that I had a bookmark by that name -- and I'd say "save anyway" (hoping I'd get out of the loop). When I shut the phone off and rebooted (30 seconds, btw, with cingular) ... I had three instances of the same bookmark.

Oh, almost forgot, the LCD is impossible to view when it's sunny. So, try dialing a number while driving and the sun is shining in the car. Believe me, it happens a lot more than you think.

Reason why you should NOT buy the XV6700:
1) Heavy
2) Bulky
3) NOT tactile intuitive. The phone pad is on an LCD screen so it's impossible to dial without looking at the screen, ie. while driving.
4) Incoming calls ring only after 3-4 rings on callers side. Most calls end up in voicemail unless it's having a good day or you happen to be right next to it.
5) Windows - need I say more. It crashes. It doesn't play anything but avi and wmv videos, NO MPG.
6) Bad ring tones and low volume
7) Not as cool as you think. Sure, it's neat to surf the web at a restaurant, but you do it at a price and you really don't need to do it that often.
8) It's as if they designed, built, and pushed this product to market before testing it for usability
9) Screen edges get filthy because your face is always pressing against the screen while on the phone and the screen edges are just perfect for catching grease but not allowing you to clean it off without much effort.
10) Phone jack is on bottom when it should be on top. The top has a hump on it so you can't really put it upside down to that the jack is on top.
11) Power button is on top. This sounds ok until you push it in your pocket and it powers on.
12) Camera sucks. Can't take readable photos of a magazine page regardless of the distance. I even mean get up really close so that the whole page doesn't show.
13) Lock and unlock is on the LCD, so it's difficult to do without looking - ie. driving.
14) Have to input code to get to voicemail. Maybe this is just Verizon, but it's a pain.
15) Volume is a royal pain. You must have the phone unlocked to change the volume of the caller, BUT the phone does not come unlocked automatically when you receive a call. So, once again, you have to pull the phone away from your head to unlock it, screw with the odd volume lever that seems to do its own thing, and the return to the call.
16) Windows Mobile is crap. The scheduler is odd.
17) Voice quality is poor. People always say that they have a hard time hearing me, but I never had that problem on my old cheapy phone.

I have had this phone for 4 months and I would love to dump. Sure the PDA aspect is cool, but it's really not worth the trouble unless you use the heck out of that aspect of it.

Figured it out finally. Using WM5 on my Treo you can select all in messages and then delete. Piece of cake.
Now, should I post this secret or just let people salivate?
Feeling mean, guess I won’t tell tonight.

Give you a hint though. It’s kind of like mouse-click and drag to select multiple items.

This sounds like a very oversimplified grandma-type article. AHHHH! There's so many BUTTONS! Email?! Whats that? Pop? Server? AHHHH! How do I work this camera doohickey?! Get with it man. These things do everything, and my little brother (9), was playing Doom on my phone (Nokia N70) without me even telling him it was on it. I don't know... for someone to blog, on the internet, about how difficult new technology is... pretty ironic, pretty sad.

It sounds like you do not know how to work your smart phones. I have had several of the phones you list, and I have not been happier with the Pocket Pc WM5 smartphones. it plugs in using a USB connection, and is compatable with 97% of the computers on the market (Yes, Apple Sucks) and I have had no problems adding contacts or using it, as it appears you have.

When it comes to Apple compatability... this is what you get form a company who wants you to "think Diffrent." you get something that is so diffrent, its incom-freaking-padable with everything. thats not the phone's fault, its Apple's

[...] I might as well just give up. As I’ve made clear before, I don’t like Windows Mobile. It’s an aesthetic choice as much as technical one, but what the hell do I know. I’m just a blogger. So with that in mind, I present the inestimable Cingular Blackjack, a feature-rich super-slim Windows Mobile 5.0 smartphone for the masses. The Blackjack— like the T-Mobile Dash, Trace, and Fluffernutter, is Cingular’s latest attempt at getting in on the one-name thing. It’s a slim, black smartphone with a 1.3-megapixel camera. It runs on Cingular’s UMTS/HSDPA 3G network, but what does this mean? It means that web browsing and email downloads are lightning fast, in the areas that currently support that technology. [...]

He's right about one thing. WM5 has no simple way to delete all messages/contacts/tasks you name it. How silly is that?
Otherwise, I really like my Treo 700wx.
Have any of you Einsteins figured out 'voice command'? It rocks!

I have been using my Motorola A1000 here in Seattle for almost two years and I will say that I have yet to see any comparable models relased in the U.S. The A1000 knocks the socks off 99% of phones on the U.S. market and its considered a dinosaur by phone standards at over two years old. Full HTML web browser. POP and SMTP makes checking email a two second process. Handwriting recognition or on screen keyboard. Why the hell any one would want a bulky keyboard with actual keys baffles me. Try a full on touch screen with the A1000. Add in the 1.2 megapixel camera, and too many goodies to list. I don't know why any one would even think about purchasing a phone that is being sold in the U.S.

[...] If you read my 10 Things I Hate About Smartphones post last week, you’d discover that I hate Windows Mobile and that, even though they run Windows Mobile, I love HTC. So with that piece of cognitive dissonance in mind, I present my review of the Cingular 8525 aka the Hermes, a Windows Mobile Pocket PC smartphone with fold out QWERTY keyboard and touchscreen. It costs $399 with contract. The Dash vs. the 8525 [...]
