Nikon D40: Affordable DSLR?

Well here’s one that caught me by surprise, the Nikon D40. Apparently this unit is an affordable addition Nikon’s popular line of DSLR cameras. All that’s really confirmed at this point is that it has 6.1-megapixels, a 2.5-inch LCD screen, three AF points, three metering modes and, of course, USB 2.0.

You can also probably expect that body to be plastic, rather than fancy metal. No word on pricing or availability, but I’d expect it priced under $700 and available on-shelves soonish.

Another pic after the drop.

Darmichar (Who am I?)

I believe it should be DSLR, for Digital Single-Lens Reflex. I would also hope that it comes in under $700. At least one other manufacturer is offering a very similarly built camera with an 8MP Sensor and a street price of around $600-$700.
