70 GB is a waste of time….

I already have 50 GB of music on my laptop, and am currently in the process of mapping an external 500 GB HD to my laptop via wireless linksys….IF MS had any smarts they would allow the users to network the 360….

20 GB, or 70 GB its all useless if you really want a MEDIA CENTER AND GAMING CONSOLE where you store all of your stuff digitally….let me read / write to an external HDD….not the pathetic HDDs you supply…

Apple gets it…look at AppleTV and AirExtreme…you can run everything wireless and its seamless….AND you can have both PC’s and Mac’s running on the same network…if they only made a gaming console….

As long as MS continues down its current line of thinking all the 360 will EVER be is a gaming console….albeit a kick butt gaming console….Rainbow 6 Vegas RULES!!

Apparently, you haven’t seen the sales for Nintendo’s Wii and DS. The PS3 should be the one worried, Wii is not a competition machine compared to the other two, but it’s certainly attracting the older crowd and non-gamers. A senior citizens home currently houses a Nintendo Wii and it’s a big hit.

360, with it’s year ahead of Sony and Nintendo will, of course, have more tricks up their sleeves, so I definitely think 360 will have the slightly upper hand until that day PS3 blasts out something that will rip both the Wii and the 360’s heart out. Until then, the 360, the XBOX Live will beat out the PS3.

I’m told it’s also possible to set up a large external hdd to work as the primary drive so long as one has the right cables and programs

microsoft is needing to do this, because of the ps3 craze. I do excpect 360 to be better than ps3 real soon. M$ needs to do this. quick. they lost over 1billion dollars last year over original xbox. they cant afford for 360 to fail. these are great moves by microsoft. micorsoft is doing pretty good with money. but sony…. they NEEEED ps3 to save them, or they’re dead. Nintendo is doing HORRIBLE. they just need to do a little better. like DS, everyone thought it was gonna be awesome. turns out, a gameboy advance with 2 screens. Wii’s controller design is awesome. nintendo can do a little better than Wii tho…. i can see nintendo falling in the future, because of microsoft and sony.

this makes alot of sense. Being able to download movies, and TV shows. They are reaching for a biggger hard drive. M$ is playing catchup with PS3. All they cared about beofre was getting 360 out beofre ps3. now they’re makeing addons like hd dvd player, dowloadable moveis and tv shows, and most likely a bigger hard drive. and those of u who want a 500gb hard drive, thats never gonna happen. If it does, excpect to pay $2500. if they do make the bigger harddrive, i expect a few months after that release for the 20gb to be a part of core, and (blank)gb to be part of the premuim bundle. M$ is rebuilding, and will soon jump over ps3. good job bill gates.

The only reason they’re making a 70gb one is because that’s the only big one which works with the 360 and it’s made by microsoft so they make more money, they could easily have released the console with a spare hard drive slot…

It’s not 70 gigs or arbitrary. It’s an 80gb hard drive, and 10gb of it are used by the system. (It’s like how the stock HDDs are 20gb but you only see 10 of it)

MS could allow external hard drives to be used, but the problem is they have no control over what brands and models would be used and thus they are exposed to having to deal potentially many more problems than if they controlled the hardware themselves.

I don’t think you can really fault MS for their strategy - lets face it they are working towards a superb product family - all the add ons are excellent products - the wheel - the hd dvd drive - to name but 2 - can only mean good times for 360 fans - we just want more than Gears of War to wet our appetites on!!!!!!!

This is the developer kit, they come with 80gigs. As for the bigger hard drive, I think m$ will wait till the price drops a bit, I’m sure they’re looking for something like 200gigs becuase of their movie downloads. The solution they’re offering at the moment is “you can download the movies that you own after you delete them”. If you want an old episode you purchased you can re-download it for free.

Does anyone else think it is almost childish how Microsoft outsizes the PS3 harddrive by 10GB? 70 seems like such an arbitrary number, and way too small compared to today’s hdd sizes. Sony will probably come out with a 100GB version in a couple of months then..

I hate how these things are controlled by people who want to make (more)money. If they really wanted to give their paying customers the opportunity to increase their storage size and let you store more of your precious movies they would let them put in their own (much bigger, like 500-750GB) harddrives. It’s like coming out with a new car on which you can only put these new fancy tiny tires, while the market is full with nice affordable big tires :-)
