I’m all for bashing the Sony PSP — it’s an overpriced handheld with a slew of awful games, but this is absolutely ridiculous. Fox 29 News is attacking the PSP for its WiFi capabilities. One of the good things about the handheld device is that it supports multiplayer and web browsing via WiFi (it’s one of the few things that justify the PSP’s price). Fox 29 News stated that the PlayStation Portable is also known as “PlayStation Pornable,” because pornographic material can be accessed via the PSP’s web browser. That can’t be good for PSP sales (right before Christmas too).
Fox 29 News goes further to say that the PSP may link your children to not only adult sites, but also pedophiles, who they’ll eventually want to go out and meet. The police should really get their hands on a few PSPs, it’d really help them out a bit. If you watch the video all the way through, you’ll start to notice that the entire thing is media scare tactic. From pornography on the PSP, to extreme violence in gaming (sorry, F.E.A.R. isn’t even on the PSP), to pedophilia via online gaming forums/chat rooms (um, there’s no chatting on the PSP either), Fox 29 News throws whatever it can to scare its audience. If some kid gets online on his PSP through the school’s WiFi network- someone needs to tell the school to put a password lock on it’s wireless network, it’s that simple. It’s easy to point the finger at a PSP, because then no one has to take responsibility for the child.

If I were those parents I’d be much more worried about what my kids were doing on the computer. Even with Flash, Javascript, and images turned off, browsing on the PSP is incredibly slow (and yes, I obviously have broadband).
That is hilarious… basically that was a report on the dangers of the internet, which, by the way Fox… is essentially accessible everywhere now. I wouldn’t want my kids looking at porn or taking it to school either, but get a grip… Plus… predators over the PSP? Have they even done a report on the chatting devices kids are actually using these days?
I suggest that Fox do a report on responsible parenting rather than running a blatant smear segment. Totally ridiculous…
I have a 9 month old daughter and I’m glad reports like these are brought to my attention. It only reminds me that when she gets to a certain age, I’ll have to sit her down and try to explain to her the evil that is The Fox Network.
fox news != a local new program on a fox affilliate. Your headline is misleading at least.
So… the PSP is bad because it can surf the Internet? How about we look at the school that doesn’t block pornography on their network… Are the same parents that are concerned about this monitoring their kid’s Internet activity at home? I personally hate to see kids sitting at a restaurant with their parents, but only focused on their handheld games, but this is absolutely ridiculous!
Oh my! Web-capable device can be used to access web sites! Somebody alert the media! Oh, wait, somebody already *did* alert the media.
this was done by just another kiddy nintendo fanboy
nintendo is a great company but you dont have to get all fanboy on us
Did you even read the post? “This is absolutely ridiculous…”
This is not FOX NEWS!!! This is a LOCAL news station sponsored by Fox! COMPLETELY different from Fox News Network!
So… lets get rid of the tv, the pc, and magazines, which all give children some type of porn. Oh, and lets all stop our children from leaving the house where they can encounter pedophiles, hatred, and again, porn.
Please Fox is the Worst News Channel ever
Do these guys even know anything about gaming
if they try to stop them from viewing porn on the internet, its quite impossible.
go to google images and put strict safe search and search pussy or something and you got it. Its not that hard so it cant be stoped. Im not saying it shouldn’t but then again internet now these days is practically free, even with your wep protected routers, the wep keys can still be cracked.
