Open Platform for PlayStation 3

We were browsing through the PlayStation 3 System Software User’s Guide when we stumbled upon a this page, which reads:

PLAYSTATION®3 allows any desired third-party system software to be installed on it besides its system software provided by Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. Details will be posted on this site soon.

This is an interesting addition. We all know the PS3 is one of the most powerful kids on the block, computer or otherwise, so it’s cool to see Sony opening the PS3 up for true customizations. The ability to run any third-party system software really blurs the line between console and computer. What do you all think about this?
