PlayStation 3 Media Playback Problems
by Raj Patel on November 11, 2006

While the rest of us have to camp out in the cold for a few days to get a PlayStation 3 next week, the hippies over at Gizmodo got their hands on a console and tested out its media playback compatibilities. Photo wise, it looks like PS3 can only do JPG files. Music wise, the PS3 can playback ATRAC, MP3, AAC, MPEG-4 and Sony’s own music format.

Gizmodo had some trouble getting the PS3 to read media from SD or CF cards, and the PS3 had trouble recognizing a thumb drive attached via USB. The problem has probably already been fixed there is already a version update from 1.0 to 1.1. Since the console isn’t released until next week, I don’t think anyone will be able to download the update. And really, how many of you are going to be looking at random media on your brand new PlayStation 3?
