Error code 87 can be solved by following the steps at the link below. To summarize, rename your DRM folder to DRMBackup. The instructions show you how find the folder. I didn't backup my licenses because I was using the Zune Pass. Once I was able to sign in, it did a quick update, and my music was accessible again.

Same here. I installed and uninstalled the Zune software 5 times. All works fine except that I can't get the marketplace to appear and the sign-on button does not do anything. I click on it - nothing. Left-click...nothing.
I called customer support and they were not help at all.
Did you get the issue resolved and if so, did you do anything special to make this work?
Thanks

The difference between microsoft and apple is that apple is historically a Hardware company, and microsoft is Software. Don't get me wrong - I think the Xbox and the 360 are great Hardware - but they build on what microsoft already does, with a purpose specific box. Although the same could be said of apple and the ipod, I think apple are just smarter in understanding consumer trends. The iMac for example.

That said, I think it's naive to think apple will hold the music market on hardware devices unless it become less rigid over licensing issues. This is VHS vs Beta, the difference here being that in this case Beta as the big lead in marketshare and content. And, it's not look Zune is winning on the price front.

For microsoft to truly compete it needs to make a compatible device and a third of the cost (or less) than an iPod with the same functions. Even at that - with Itunes being the leading store of digitally downloaded music it's tough to compete.

Zune's p2p filesharing scheme is interesting. In theory it should be awesome. I'm curious to see how that really plays out. The truth is however, it's just as easy to share music on an ipod. Go to a friends house, plug in your ipod and load up. It really can't be any easier to "share".
