So earlier we told you how Amazon yanked the Palm Treo 680 off their website. Now we know why thanks to a reliable source – Apparently 144,000 Treo 680s were shipped out and had to be sent back because some genius forgot to connect the internal microphones. The manufacturer (who isn’t HTC) had to take back all 144,00 680s and fix them all. No word yet on how long shipments are going to be delayed for, but this is a huge screw up on the manufacturer’s part. It might seem minuscule to some, but imagine if Ford sent out 10,000 Explorers without connecting the brakes. See what we mean? Hopefully the first batch of Treo 680s won’t have too many flaws in their first shipment.
when were the treos returned? any more info on when this actually occurred? or have the treos been returned and fixed already :) here’s to wishful thinking…

So far for internal and outgoing quality control … one would think this is a BASIC test that would be done, at several possible places …

No, our source on this has never been wrong about Palm stuff. And this kind of thing happens all the time, this one was just extra bad luck. The problem appears to be fixed, but they are a little behind schedule because of it.
which carrier were these for? palm says generic version available exclusively from palm so what went to amazon? sprint, cingular?

Whay is it that any yahoo with a tech domain can print a single paragraph like this with no backup, no sources, no quotes from Amazon (who is moving to have this post removed). Why are there o sources in a story like this? because it is inflmmatory B.S..
This is clearly someone who wants sone attention, or has a grudge against Palm for some reason. The 680 has never had an announced release date, and Amazon was a pre-sale. There are units of the 680 in shipping channels as we speak.
