Windows Turns 21 Years Old, Crashes 25m Times A Day
by Vince Veneziani on November 20, 2006

Love it or hate it, you and I both know that Microsoft Windows is the world’s #1 desktop operating system. Today Windows turns 21 years old and to celebrate, we’re taking it out to the local pub to get hammered. Connected Internet has put together a great list of facts about Windows to celebrate its birthday. Some highlights include:

  • “Between 1986 and 1996 Microsoft’s stock soared hundredfold and it was estimated that Microsoft had created 10,000 millionaires by 2000.”

  • “An estimated 250-300K applications have been developed for Windows.”

  • “If Bill drops a thousand dollar bill, it’s not worth his while to pick it up, as he’ll make the same amount in the time it takes him to pick it up.”

That’s sick. Windows has really gone through some changes though since its inception as the uber-craptastic version 1.0. My personal favorite version is tied between 3.1 and Windows 2000. Windows 2000 just seemed to work really well and was speedy. I’d still use it today if I didn’t have Vista to use. What’s your favorite version of Microsoft’s demonically popular OS? Let us know in the comments!

    • As a grey-hair that still remembers a few CPM commands, there will always be a place in my arsenal for command-line functions. I don’t believe a day goes by where I don’t pull up a console window to get something done.

    • Hello,
First things first…..I really love your blog….i have “Ctrl+D ” it

Well i think that vista was a the final nail in the coffin of MS… Vista was a resource hungry monster….
And te disappointing fact is inspite of all the resources provided it did nothing different from XP (at least on the surface)….

Not only that but the manner people were made to vista ,literally by pointing a gun at their head ,remember the time when they said that they will be closing all support to XP,many people got scared and opted on to Vista …and when they say that this was not scary enough but people were moving toward linux they cancelled their plans to discontinue support to XP.

Many people have kept the grudge and belive me when ever the “blackwomb” (clould, sunshine, rain 7,8,9 what ever) comes out ..no one is going to buy it

Except for MS office no one is using an of their stuff,

      MP3’s - vlc or itunes
      Internet - firefox,crome…..
      Movies - vlc

      photos - photo shop

I am predicting in another 20 years MS will bw bank rupt
