QinetiQ has developed a mousepad that tracks movements sans mouse. The pad interprets hand motions through a system of infrared sensors. It can also recognize gestures in order to enact various system functions.
I don’t suppose that using this device would be the most comfortable solution imaginable. Being forced to hover your hand above the pad for hours on end seems potentially destructive to all sorts of msucle groups. But I guess it’ll at least cut down on carpral tunnel. Anyway, given that QinetiQ isa defense firm, I doubt this is intended for public consumption.
