"pump out such tight, punchy, and powerful bass that you’ll think you’re in a club."

Oh come on, if I wanted to feel like I was in a club, I'd buy a boombox and get someone to shake my desk back and forth. No club I have ever been in has tight or punchy bass.

btw @ herman: I grew up in the digital age (born in '91) , but I still find records to sound nicer than mp3's. There are some albums I simply refuse to listen to on anything but LP.

I have found Bose to be overhyped for years. Their psychological marketing ploys have successfully foisted an over priced under acheiver on a naive audience. Apparently the EARS don't have it . At the risk of sounding like a dinosaur Analog audio still has it over the glitzy hyped sound of low sample rate digital.
I have 50 years experience in high quality disc recording and though my hearing is less than golden the difference is still noticeable.

Jeez some of you are bitter...I think in the case of Bose you should consider that some people actually do get value out of owning a product that has been marketed as well as Bose. It's an intangible comfort aspect of a product to think that it's "cool" and "high quality" even if it's not. With products such as these where the user should instantly be able to know if it's good or not (because the consumer is listening to it and making a judgment on the spot), then it really is only as high quality to the consumer as it is interpreted.

Basically, if someone doesn't know their audio equipment is bad, then it's not bad for them. And if they want to pay a higher price to convince themselves as such, then Bose should consider those marketing dollars well-spent.

Nothing on this list (besides perhaps the sonos system) even falls under the relm of audiophile. Everything here is overpriced (bose) crappy sounding headphones and a cheap, boomy sub. I hate it when companies throw the sticker "audiophile" on something because "OMG 1000 watts and it has DSP!!!!!!!" DSP just makes crappy hip-hop music sound worse.

How is it that BOSE always makes a list like this? Being in the industry and considering myself an audiophile, I must say...
BOSE SUCKS.

McDonald's isn't in the burger business, they are in Real Estate. GM isn't in the car business, they're in Finance (GMAC), and Bose is not a speaker company, they are a marketing group.

Any wonder why you can never easily crack open the PLASTIC housings to see the quality of the components? Gwad, I hate Bose.

Very cool headphones but at $500 and $400 respectively is the sound quality that big of a leap over the consumer grade options?

jukkaTheFinn - I totally dig the slim devices too. I hope Logitech doesn't change their style since they acquired the company. I really like their retro-futuristic design and I hear their products have great audio quality too.
