We just got in the Insignia 2GB Sport video player. An interesting beast. It’s branded with Best Buy’s music store and plays MP3s and WMAs as well as some video formats - not DivX, apparently, because a movie I just dragged over didn’t play. I’ll take a closer look tonight. It also has and audio in jack and FM tuner and is considerably lighter - but not smaller - than the nano.
Looks pretty cheapy but then again it’s pretty cheap, do tell John…maybe I can pick one of these up for a gift.
I need to play with it a little more before I decide. It is really cheap for a 2GB player, but it might be a little crippled.
I did minimal research on mp3s at a few locations and decided these had the most features for the best price. Purchased two at Best Buy in Tupelo MS when i was traveling there. The list is $120.00, I got them for $99.00 ea. Compared to any other in the under $125.00 price it has the best specs of all I’d seen. Upon using I caused it to freeze up in the first hour! Had to have the battery taken out to even shut it off to reset it! Love all the featues but concerned about the brain farts!????!! Any advice?
Got this as a gift from my wife. I was amused by the tiny video screen. The format converter that came with did nothing for me. It plays avi’s with the VIDx format. After several tries I got dvd’s down to a 350 meg file using DVDecrypt, then AutoGK (tweak the advanced settings, width 320, encode soundtrack as mp3), then transferring with media player. None of these programs actually came with the player. The resulting video is surprisingly clear.
As a bonus, the line in doubles as a second headphone jack, so you can share the tiny screen with a friend.
I picked one of the 4G versions ($129) and am amazed at how much it does for so little $$$. Video works great (albeit, small screen) using DVDDecrypter and the bundled mediaconverter application. Audio quality is very good, battery life is excellent. The jog wheel is a little cheap, but the build quality, “heft” and usability is actually very good. It doesn’t scratch. Oh, and it has a replaceable 1300maH battery. $70 cheaper than a Nano, and has FM and video - hard to pass this one up.

My husband purchased the Insignia 4G for $129.00 as my mothers day gift and I love it. It is very practical and dummy friendly. It does not come with a battery charger but you can charge it through your computer. Plug in the USB cord and leave there for a little while and it does it automatically. The presets on the Fm radio stations sound crystal clear. This is definitely a bargain price for what it offers. The case is very cheesy so if you want to protect it Best Buy sells a really nice one for $20.00.
