Acer Gets Viiv Certified LCD

Acer has announced the AT3705, a 37-inch HD-ready LCD that has claimed of the title of the world’s first Intel Viiv certified monitor. The display is able to “test for compatibility of networked media devices with Intel Viiv technology-based PCs while sharing content over a home network.” In addition to that noise, it can also playback recorded digital TV and it has support for Digital Transmission Content Protection over IP (DTCP-IP).

No word on pricing or availability, but with Viiv stuff dropping everywhere, I’d expect it to be available soon.

While technology such as this is cool, it’s creeping into places it shouldn’t, no, isn’t ready for imho. A display [tv, lcd, etc] is the most important piece of a media center and it’s performance can make or break a setup. The problem I see with this is the more a device is asked to do, the more prone is to crashing and instability. Even though I’ve been asked ‘Why are you rebooting the tv?’ it was obviously the pc not the tv, yet now we will be exposing ourselves to problems on multiple machines that are multi tasking. This is a great concept but I think, I’ll keep my POTV for now [plain ol' tv] :)
