Funny yeah saying hes fooling his ears well I had some Marin Logan stuff I bought 8 months ago in Halifax Canada source fronts matinee center and surrounds and DepthI for a sub some very nice gear.Well before I got is set up moved to Edmonton Ab and sent the stuff out 3 months later. When it arrived unpacked it and noticed the laminate on the fronts was peeling so talked to martin logan and they said to take it to a local dealer named National audio. When I arrived was given the cold shoulder like I was some alien.Went into a demo room while they figured what to do .They thought id gone down the hall .Heard the sales guy say dont want this useless ass in my store not buying anything .Was totally horrified what I heard!!!Finally got the issue looked after much fighting with logan.Well when my new speakers arrived was so dissappointed sold them for 45 percent of what I paid!!!!Washed my hands of one of the supposed best companies out there.Went to the West edmonton mall to the Bose store bought a ls48 system there the sales guys were great.Bought a new bluray and some more stuff to hookup and surpassed the imput levels on the 48 system.Called them up after 14 weeks told me to take the system in they exchanged it no problem.Funny such a bad company gave me the best service ive ever had.And Martin logan gave me the worse hands down!!!!Never again will I buy Logans!!!!Now the music quality the Bose sounds great and I dont know?Ive owned Logans and Paradigm studio 100s v 4s as well as Jamo and sure may be more of a sound stage. There better be for 20000 plus dollars. But if I had my time back would have bought Bose the service was great and in my opinion so are the speakers. Its funny how some condemn saying your ears are lying to you well just cause I go to the ford dealer lot to buy a car and pick one you dont like am I dumb or stupid ?No I just prefer something different and Id chose bose Sorry Martin Logan with your shitty customer service. And thank you staff at West Edmonton Mall Bose you made my shopping so much easier in the future!!!!!!

I Hate BOSE!!! I'm a pro audio installer, I've been doing installations with recording studios, churches, and performing arts venues for 10 years now. About 9 years ago I put in my first 802 III system which consisted of 2 802 III and 2 502bp's (subs) matched bose amps with correct eq cards, and the controller (as per recommendation of bose rep). I didn't choose it, the customer did because he thought bose we're "really cool" and insisted. It worked good for lower level music playback but really showed it's deficiency during live music. The place was a small band venue which seated maybe 100 people and it couldn't handle any pushing. The matched amps that were recommended by bose were the only amps that I have EVER used that triggered a thermal shutdown EVER, because they over-heated right in the middle of a concert. They were twice the price of any other amps with similar specs. 4 years later I did purchase another similar bose set-up (without the amps) for a small church. At the time the price had gone down considerably and they needed something with very wide coverage so for them it was a very good setup. The next year I was doing another small church and the setup looked like it may be good for them (also thought bose was cool and insisted) for what they did. So I called my supplier and found out they fixed their prices, which means no matter who sells them they are all at full retail msrp. Usually prices go down when a piece of technology gets older but apparently not so with bose! Each speaker cost me 200 bucks more, about a 30% increase. Now that same church is expanding and in need of 2 more 802's and so I'm going to go buy some more ridiculously high priced pieces of 10 year old garbage. Sound through research huh, guess bose thinks technology hasn't advanced much in the last 10 years. I'm never buying bose again.

I work in a Bang & Olufsen store, there is a place that sell Bose around the corner. I love embarrassing Bose equipment with some real high end kit. It's not even close when when it comes to sound quality, build quality and design!

I know there are some people who don't quite get Bang & Olufsen or have perhaps never been to a store to have a listen. I had, what I now realise, a poorly informed opinion of B&O, then, I went into a showroom for a look and listen, truly breathtaking, honestly, go and try it!

Like I said I'm now lucky enough to be working with this amazing stuff and it's incredible the amount of care and attention that goes into development.

It REALLY grinds me when people ask how we compare to Bose, I then proceed to show them we are in a different league altogether.

No tacky plastics and paper speaker drivers here! All made with top notch materials like 99.9% pure Aluminum that is produced by Bang & Olufsen. powerful, digital ICEpower amps built in to the speakers, normally one for each drive unit, partnered perfectly and only amplifying the frequencies relevant to it's driver.

Anyway, I digress, Bose makes my blood boil, tacky, gimmicky, poor quality tat! I have had the misfortune of installing this junk on many occasions, the quality beggars belief! The Lifestyle systems are a joke and don't even get me started on the 3.2.1 system. Plain awful!

If you have the money to buy an excessively expensive Bose system, why did'nt you go to a reputable hifi shop, listen to a sound system that you like (it would probably take two hours out of your busy life) buy it and ask them to come install it, then you would only have to press play. The only reason people are getting bent out of shape about Bose is because it is like buying Ferrari with a Lada motor under the bonnet, that's all we're saying. Audiophiles as you call them are not all a..holes who pick holes in product for the sake of it, we just don't like been bulls..ted with marketing from a corparation who do not spend their money on quality. Bose do make 'some' reasonable product, ie noise cancelling headphones, however, I would never buy one of their so called hifi systems because they are exploiting peoples stupidity. Each to their own, if you enjoy the product you have then all power to you but don't be calling audiophiles turtle necks if they are into great sounding audio gear as opposed to 'appeal to the masses because it fits in the corner' mentallity. Bose are measurably inferior to a lot of product out there that is a s..t load cheaper for a lot better value for money...you obviously enjoy listening to music with massive frequency gaps...in laymen's terms Bose do not produce the full audio spectrum the human ear can hear, you are missing out on a huge percentage of sound...I for one like hearing female vocals, trumpets, snare drums etc etc, Bose cannot (by measurement) produce these frequencies. No point denying it, why do you think Bose NEVER give out specifications for wattage to distortion levels nor frequency response?

This is truly the best sound I ever experienced in my 37 years trough out such tiny speakers these just bring emphasis on certain sounds I never heard before on songs I have heard over and over on other systems. bands like "tool" or "dead can dance" who like to place lots of FX sounds would be very enjoyable to hear in this specific system I have heard good and bad Bose speakers, these are Great!.

Comparing Bose to some audiophile gear is pointless. It's like saying "Don't buy a Merc, get a Lexus". Some people with money don't want the hassle you get with the poorly defined interfaces on audiophile gear, and just want to simply play music.

I've got a bose system, and I got it because a) I'm not some kind of turtle-necked old bozo audiophile demanding the n'th degree of clarity from sound (too busy), b) I just want to push play and that's it, c) I've got plenty of money for this sort of shit. Basically, I'm their target market, and I'm happy, as are the millions of other people with dough who buy the stuff.

Sure Bose gear will never compete with cheaper, complicated systems for people who've got all day to configure things. In some ways, Bose is like Apple - a nasty, aggressive legal department, lot's of (stolen) trade secrets and closed systems. Who cares: unlike your typical audiophile setup - it's useable out of the box by people with better things to do than tinker with wires.

ps. Why are audiophiles so damned ugly and pedantic? Just a question.

You're absolutely right. But still; I feel it's somehow more ethical to warn gullible consumers of scams which is what bose really is. They're marketing and pricing themselves like the Mercedes Benz of audio while they really are overpriced junk. That's a scam in my book.

Chill, people! Seriously, there are so many other things to worry about than what other people buy for their own homes. That being said, it's amazing that people are buying Bose when there are so many better options available. But hey, it's their money and their ears and they obviously don't value either. But it's a free country.

Basically I couldn't care less what people buy to listen to in their own homes, I don't sell anything so it really doesn't affect me. Nor should anyone IMO care about what total strangers on an internet forum are saying in favor or against such and so brand. However, what bothers me a bit - well, puzzles rather than really bothers, is how people seem to part with a not inconsiderable amount of money without doing any proper research. You try clothes and shoes before you buy, right? So why not shop around for audio equipment? Granted, you won't always have the convenience of in-mall stores, but you could be rewarded with much better value. I haven't seen a single Bose product that isn't easily beaten by a cheaper product from a competitor. Take the all-in-one music center. Easy: check out the Music Hall Trio. Cheaper and not just a bit better sounding, we're talking a different league here. Other brands like Onkyo have even cheaper all-in-ones that still beat Bose on quality. If you go the separates way the difference in quality becomes bigger still. Small great sounding speakers? Good bookshelves are your ticket. Great ones are made by Dali (the Lektor 1 is also great for hanging on a wall), Klipsch, B&W, Kef, etc. These start at a couple of hundreds and all beat Bose hands down. For the money saved you could even add a nice subwoofer (not the fake not-so-sub-bins Bose is overcharging for). Headphones? Sennheiser, AKG, Audiotechnica, Denon, and let's not forget the king of the hill Grado are all light years ahead of Bose. Noise canceling headphones? Check out Sennheiser's offerings, they make Bose seem like a joke. I'm not trying to push brands here, just pointing out some alternatives. Basically any and all proper hifi brand will easily outperform Bose (granted, obviously not the Best Buy kinda entry level crap). Just treat yourself to a trip to a proper hifi store and you won't need much convincing. Bose is a waste of money. Why would you want to spend a lot of money on underperforming gear that seriously hampers your listening pleasure? Don't just believe me, go and check it out for yourself. It doesn't take golden ears to hear the difference. And it doesn't cost you a dime to just check out the competition, but could save you many (and I'm not just talking about money here). You owe it to yourself to at least do a little research. Don't be fooled by tacky marketing.

Frankly I couldn't care less whatever someone I don't even know buys and listens to in their own home. Nor do I think anyone should care. Still it leaves me puzzled why people don't do any research before committing themselves and parting with their hard earned money. There are so many much better options out there for less money. You won't find those in a mall, granted. You'll have to go visit a proper hifi store. But in my book if you want value for your money and have to spend years listening to gear you might as well do a little effort and check things out. You try clothes and shoes before you buy, right?

So you like the small size factor of those speaker cubes? Good bookshelves are way better than Bose, for example try Dali Lektor 1, tiny yet extremely refined (some might want to add a subwoofer for bass power depending on room size). You like the all-in-one electronics concept? Three words for you: Music Hall Trio. No Bose can ever even come near it in terms of quality. For even less money brands like Onkyo offer all-in-one solution too. I'm not trying to push any brand here, just giving pointers. The only sensible advice one can give is to go out and listen for yourself. It's your money, and if you're like me, you'll want to spend it well. Compare, compare, compare before you buy. You'll get over Bose pretty fast that way. Headphones? AKG, Sennheiser, Ultrasone, Audiotechnica and king of the hill Grado are all better. Not just a bit but lightyears ahead. Don't just trust me, try it out for yourself and trust your ears. Noise cancelling phones? Sennheiser is simply in another league than Bose. There simply is not one Bose product that isn't bettered by another proper brand. Do the comparison before you buy. It won't hurt you. Again, I don't really care whether you buy Bose or not, but if you care at least a bit about quality do your homework.

I'm absolutely stunned there actually are people who honestly believe what sound they hear from Bose is actually OK. It's really sad!! Is this because of MP3 players that seem to be the standard today? But even an iPod sounds better than a Bose system, so it leaves me puzzled. Are those who write favorably above Bose employees? Must be. It's really weird. When buying shoes or clothes one tries on for size, but apparently Bose buyers buy blind (or deaf for that matter). Makes me wonder, really. Why don't they go to a real hifi store and listen to some decent equipment? I'll admit I tend to spend a lot more on audio equipment than the average person. But a while ago I was with my dealer and there was a reasonably affordable system (like $1,000 for CD player, amp and speakers combined) on demo and I have to admit it was damn fine. Not even the most expensive Bose system is ever able to even hint at this quality (and yes, I know because my brother in law sadly has one). The components were Cambridge Audio and the speakers were Dali Lektor 1 (but I'm not trying to favor any particular brand here, just encouraging to do your research before spending your hard earned money). Those are small speakers too so the tiny size factor of the Bose cubes quickly disappears. But the sound quality was downright sweet. In a way it's kinda sad Bose owners won't be able to hear their music well. It's downright stupid to spend this kind of money and not even check out the competition. You'll be in for a surprise how much more quality you can buy for a lot less. Why go for bad value when there's so much better out there? I don't get it...

So, basically what you're saying is that it doesn't matter how bad it sounds, because you're happily fooling yourself. Intresting POV. Thanks for giving me insight in the psychology of Bose buyers. Now I'll go and try selling Yugo to gullible buyers. Hopefully a lot of Bose owners will come in.
