, Belkin has announced that its wireless USB hub will be available for purchase by mid-December in the US. The $199 four-port hub uses Ultra-Wideband (UWB) via a Wisair chipset to wirelessly send data from your computer to your peripherals at up to USB 2.0 speeds (480Mbps).

Being able to stuff my printer, scanner, iPod dock and external hard drive into a cabinet without having to run a cable to my desktop is pretty sweet. And then if I want to access them all from my notebook up to 30-feet away, all I have to is move a USB dongle.

Aside from the coolness of the wireless, the hub actually looks nice as well. More pictures are after the jump.

Although I’m not TOO bothered about wires, my girlfriend HATES them (and they’re all-over the apartment) – Maybe a valentines day gift?? ;)
I’m also salivating over this – I’m about to reroute the wire forest behind my desk in a vain attempt to gain control/organization. It will fail.
The dongle is a little lame, but then again, UWB isn’t included in most machines at this point… Expresscard perhaps?
And yes, CrunchGear needs to give away a few of these when they’re more readily available. :)
Finally a gadget my wife will demand I buy… But $200? ouch..
I got one of these to test it. It works well as long as you have a direct line of sight to the hub. Does not work through walls. I have a card reader, printer, and external hard drive hooked up to it. Although it works well I don’t really have much use for it so it’s on eBay as we speak.
