I actually own the 1GB version of this, and I think the thing's darn near invincible. I have no qualms throwing the thing across the room to somebody else, because if it hits the ground, it just bounces around a bit, and it's none the worse for the wear. I wouldn't recommend doing it regularly, but if you're too lazy to walk across the room (like me), you'll enjoy it.

Dare I ask when operating “in severe temperature situations” would be needed.

Arizona summers....110 in the shade while sitting on the patio at Star Bucks sipping your extr tall Iced Mocha Cappuccino.

The a-open usb thumb drive called JOGR is pretty reliable, only goes up to 2gb i think. Bought it for a clumsy friend of mine and he has left it in his pants pocket and put it in the washing machine twice and it still worked fine afterwards. I think more should have a rubberized outside for protection.

Dare I ask when operating "in severe temperature situations" would be needed.

"Shoot, the house is on fire, quick grab the thumb drive that works in severe temperature situations."

While I do agree, they look about as stupid as third nipple, they are quite grippy. To be honest, I care very little about what my portable storage looks like, its all about the feel. :)
