There’s one thing you left out of the equation when talking about iPods: Value. No one denies that the ease of use and quality of the ipod are both very high. But when it comes to value (and I’m not talking price per GB of storage here, I’m talking price of listening to a full length, legally obtained song) the Sansa R series, or any subscription player for that matter, totally dominates. For $15 bucks a month I can listen to full length songs, albums, and artists that I choose, for 24 hours a day, all month long. In my book, that’s a value that can’t be beat.

More than the iTunes music store, you can get a gazillion things for the iPod.Mine interface directly into my stereo in the car and gives me steering wheel control of the iPod and song readouts over the GPS.

Lets not forget that the iPod may be hip and cool to own, but you can’t deny that it is also a great product on the whole. The whole iTunes/store and iPod player combo is pretty damn hard to beat for ease of use and quality. Even if you never buy an iTunes song it will play a butt load of other audio formats.

The Sansa is an excellent product and really all that most people need in an MP3 player.

I think it is telling that Mr Engadget himself, Peter Rojas, uses one exclusively, as he likes the ability to simply drop in music & podcast files directly from the file system, without having to sync it.

So it’s hardly surprising Mr CrunchGear would like the Sandisk Sansa too. It seems to be THE player for wise gadget geeks!

As to the color, perhaps people who want brown can buy the white one and follow the directions in this cheeky article… ;)

Don’t judge the product by its color. Most people feel cool about the white iPod, because it’s been registered to the public to be that “cool” when you see someone’s plugging it in their ears. So, how about the black iPod? Nobody knows it’s an iPod player when you have it just kept in your pocket, unless you recognize the earbud’s style.. Brown makes a new wave of style, another kind of generation, and indeed, I like it because of my race color as well. It’s a brand new cool to hip if you have that. Maybe Apple doesn’t have that brown feeling anyway. Critique kills us sometimes, so don’t easily be persuaded.

I am really sick of people comparing Sansa to Zune. I mean people cannot be so dumb. Or is it that they just want to bash MS and will write anything at all. Look at the cost of Sansa and Zune. THEY BELONG TO DIFFERENT CATEGORY OF PRODUCT. Zune should only be compared to 200+ dollar product.
Please…. You can do better than that.

Maybe Amazon’s sales don’t support it, but I’ve heard tons of people that love the brown color. I’m sure if you look at car sales, black is still the most popular – but doesn’t mean the other colors were a dumb decision.
